Is Mirc better for me?

Hello everyone *wavers* yea...so it has been a while since I posted *smiles* sowwy...

BUT I am back with important questions :)

I have always loved to Roleplay and in such I usually liked to run sessions since I found that I got kinda bored as a player. However, the isolated environment which was my 'gaming group' prefered to run hack and slash adventures...in everything...hack and slash Vampire...yea ^_^ if you could get a weapon in it they would create some reason you would need to beat some one with it.

So I would Game Master, but I am just AWFUL with rules. So before each session I would have to reread things that pertained to my session so that I wouldn't get that "but that isn't what the book says" line pulled on me. But then there were just so many rules @_@ I was lost. And players would get "confused" on what their abilities would do so suddenly they COULD hit three targets with their Magic Missle...it says so. And I am not one to check everything ^_^ it is all about trust.

So now I have the chance to play in a Mirc Format. I will be playing, not GMing. So I wonder how my table top problems will transfer over to MIrc. Will things be easier or more confusing as the only mode of communication is through typing.

So what problems occur with MIrc that you have witnessed...and can we get help with some solutions that people have come up with ^_^ an open communication about the flaws and strengths of MIrc games...as I find them very intreging, however I don't want to go into my first game TOTALLY unprepared ^_^

I will be checking back in this a lot ^_^ so share share ^_^ Help a sister out ^_~

Luifa.

Trust me, while there WILL be combat, I doubt you'll be attacking much. Unlike in real life, mIRC combat tends to be slowed down a lot. Btw expect an email from me regarding your character. We have some things we need to discuss.

Alternative to knowing the rules well: Have a player that you trust who had mad math skills and near-perfect encyclopedic rules knowledge calculate everything the PCs do on the fly. (I have a player that just does that instinctively...very useful)

How patient are you? :D

mIRC is great and all but when it comes to combat I've found it slows down to a crawl.

Beyond that, my experiances with mIRC have been good.

I agree with Derian. While I think Combat will be a MAJOR bore than it should be, the RP aspects will probably be played up more.

ooo good so far

I thought so with combat....the rules thing is hard too because I just moved away from where I was...so now I have to start all over....

The RPing is why I am so interested in MIRC ^_^

OK, I'm still curious - what is MIRC?

mIRC is a programming allowing one to connect to Internet Relay Chat (IRC). So yes, it's a type of chatroom.

One can even use mIRC to connect to the chatrooms connected to these boards.

mIRC is a chat client that works on IRC (Internet Relay Chat). I have been playing in and running games over IRC for about 5-7 years now. I have played WEG Star Wars (and a few created settings using those rules), Star Wars D20, Shadowrun, D&D3E, Last Unicorn Games Star Trek games and recently started a Buffy Unisystem game.

The system really has a lot to do with how quickly combat will run in IRC. WEG Star Wars and Unisystem both flow fairly well. D20 gets fairly bogged down due to the tactical nature of it. Shadowrun was somewhere in between.

All in all most of the games I run tend towards roleplaying, but that is the case with the few games I've run in person. So I guess it's all a matter of the system and what you tend towards in general.
