Is Mystic Theurge a balanced P. class?

I personally want to the see the bard-MT build that is "easily the most powerful character in the group." The others must all be kobold warriors.

Kobold Warriors? Hardly, that's way overpowered. They are all Kobold Commoners. ;)

A Multiclassed spellcaster, just like all multiclass characters, give up power for flexibility. Prestige classes like the Mystic theurge give the character both with very little sacrifice.
I'd argue that a Mystic Theurge gives up almost as much flexibility as he gains. Higher level spells of a single-class caster are not just more powerfull, they are also an additional options (ie flexibility) that an MT doesn't have.

There is simply no comparison between the power loss suffered by, say, a Wiz6/Clr6 and a Ftr6/Rog6. None. Any argument to the contrary is just silly.

There's an excellent comparison. The Ftr6/Rog6 has gained power in many ways compared to a Ftr12 or a Rog12, the Wiz6/Clr6 has lost an incredible amount, and in no way is more powerful than a Wiz12 or a Clr12.

It is? I got that from the Epic Handbook. Do you have a source saying otherwise?

Mystic Theurge doesn't appear in the Epic Handbook. The class was created after the ELH was published.

From memory, glass maintains that the Epic progression for the Mystic Theurge found in the web enhancement on the WotC website (which states alternating increases) falls afoul of the Primary Source rule, since the ELH says that:

The following guidelines describe how the epic class progressions.
For spellcasters, caster level continues to increase after 20th level.

Correct me if I've missed any points in your position, glass?

Im pretty sure that they indeed can wear armor... as they've gained the proficiency from the cleric class, they just don't get further proficiency.

Well u guys conviced me that he isn't overpowered at the low levels... what about epic levels... where you can keep taking it, as it is a 10 levels prestige class... Are they still balanced there?
They CAN wear armor. They just suffer from arcane spell failure in it... unless thier arcane spellcasting class is Battle Sorceror or Warmage. :)

Or Bard. ;)

Cleric/Warmage is probably quite nice as a Mystic Theurge, even though the extra level you lose is harsh.

You are, of course, correct. Now I am left wondering just where the hell I saw it. My apologies on that, glass.

Is that a reference to prestige classes? Or just classes in general?

Classes in general, but the section contains references to prestige classes, which implies that the section is not restricted in scope to base classes.
