Is OOTS getting more "adult"?

I'm gonna hafta go with "yes." While it's never had a kid-friendly tone, I think there's been a higher non-grandma-friendly-topic-per-panel-ration recently.

Like everyone has said, it's not a bad thing, and it reflects the realities of a group of adults playing these characters, so 'sokay. :)

'Cuz we all know a sociopathic halfling with the goal of "killing sentient creatures because they have green skin and fangs and we don't and take their stuff" is kid friendly. (http://www.giantitp.com/cgi-bin/GiantITP/ootscript?SK=13)

The very first OOTS strip is a fracas with lots of killing going on and it doesn't get better. Issue #6 has Elan holding out one of his own organs.

Stupid bloothirsty puritan heritage that hides under the bed when confronted by a breast. :\

I don't know about more adult/juvenile... but it seems to have changed to plot/story emphasis over "make fun of D&D conventions".

Anyone else notice this?

'Strue. Heck, Rich notes this himself, in the notes in the OOTS book. He feels that some of the humor of the early strips may not necessarily hold up as well, because of this.

Then again, in #201, Durkon's full of metagame thinking (identifying Miko as a paladin by dint of her abilities and horse, talking about the game-mechanic effects of the storm, etc.)

"Get off me you stupid horse!"
"Goddamn size modifiers to grapple checks!!"

There are only so many good game mechanics to goof on. Maybe we'll see a full-fledged assault on them again when 4e comes out.

Personally I'm waiting for the Order of the Stick to confront the evil party of D&D-lite PCs who can do things their DM allows, but the Order cannot because of the rules. ;)

LOL! "I'm a muticlassed Paladin / Barbarian!" "But...how? The alignment restrictions!" "Bah, we ditched alignment. It's a stupid mechanic."
