It's utterly inconsistent and nonsensical that a race that can lift and carry twice is much as a human has no strength bonus. That means that giants should have 3-18 as their strength and just be able to lift and carry more. There's no reason at all for them to have strengths from 21 to 29 when strength is best represented by the ability to carry more!Wait minute...
So you're telling me that the strength of the goliath species is represented best by a non-ASI species trait?
But that's... that's INCONSISTENT... or something. I don't know.
@DND_Rebornagain well in general true it is in no way true to every set...
Now I am out of shape (when I was younger I would have argued round WAS a perfectly valid shape but age has made that less true) and 3/4 of the women I know are athletic in one way or another... BUT i would be hard pressed to name a woman that COULDN'T carry/lift/push more then me.
My Fiancé was working in garden center at walmart when we met...she would by herself move huge heavy boxes without a thought that me and my best friend would have trouble moving together... now she works in an office now (as I always have) but she still puts the ACs in and out of the windows at my house while I cat call her... cause she can no big deal while I struggle to do so.
nothing against you but in a game with magic, dragons, and the ability to get 8 hours rest and feel refreshed most of us have LONG lost the real/simulation feel.
That doesn't mean that their bonuses are any different, though. It just means that they've been blessed with much higher than average stats, which include the racial bonuses of the race that they are a part of. If you want a scrawny orc, put your lower scores in strength and con and you will have that despite the +2 to strength. They don't cease to be members of their race by virtue of being born exceptional members of that race.I think most people have it backwards.
It's not that the PC are different kinds of people. It's more that the people who are built different, are freaks of nature, prodigies, or hve fortunate lives are more likely to be successful PCs.
They didn't force ANY playstyle, let alone a single one. From day one DMs were free to engage "rulings over rules" and "the rules serve the DM, not the other way around." If they wanted Tasha style stat bonuses, those happened.Because they still forced a single playstyle by omission.
That's why Tasha's happend
Strength as an ability score is not the only factor of strength. It is just a means of deriving skill and attack bonuses. It's utterly inconsistent and nonsensical that a race that can lift and carry twice is much as a human has no strength bonus. except as monsters we need them to hit harder... so they can have a 10 str as long as they get "+7 to hit and damage from super str"It's utterly inconsistent and nonsensical that a race that can lift and carry twice is much as a human has no strength bonus. Your personal experience doesn't matter, though. In the real world the average man is stronger than the average woman, and the strongest man is significantly stronger than the strongest woman. Strength has a very wide range, though, so there will still be lots of individual women who are stronger than a lot of individual men. It's the same with speed.again well in general true it is in no way true to every set...

Having gender stat differences adds far less to the game than it takes away, so it's good thing for it not to be there. It's apples and oranges compared to racial bonuses, though. This entire tangent has no relation to Tasha's and the discussion of racial bonuses.nothing against you but in a game with magic, dragons, and the ability to get 8 hours rest and feel refreshed most of us have LONG lost the real/simulation feel.
So what. It is in fact A factor of strength, so a creature with the ability to carry twice as much would have a strength bonus. And you are factually wrong with your claim that it is just a means of deriving skill and attack bonuses. It's directly tied to the ability to...................drum roll................lift, drag and carry things!Strength as an ability score is not the only factor of strength. It is just a means of deriving skill and attack bonuses.
From a CR standpoint, sure, they just need to have that +7 and do a lot of damage. There are a lot of creatures that aren't strong that get +7 to hit and do damage without being big and strong. They don't have high strength. Giants have great strength because size and "strong" directly translates into strength scores going up.except as monsters we need them to hit harder... so they can have a 10 str as long as they get "+7 to hit and damage from super str"
