Is the Mystic (from the Dragonlance Campaign Setting) too weak?

Okay, but just curious.

Some have said that giving a "turn undead" equivalent ability would help make it more appealing.

Others have said that giving them extra domains (5 more?) would make it more appealing too.

My question is - isn't extra domains bumping their power much more than the "turn undead" equivalent ability? Taking the Sun domain effectively gives the "turn undead" ability, and you get 4 more domains to tinker with.

Having "Extra Domain" as a feat would be an option. As to the longevity of the class, the mystic does suffer right now from the same thing the sorcerer does, but in the mystic's case there's no familiar. So, if the energy channeling feature is tied to mystic level and doesn't advance with a PrC, that may be enough to justify it.

And again, I think an "improved" and "greater" domain access feature would do more than adding another domain on top of the one they have.

If I might suggest:

Mystic 1: gain Least energy channelling related to domain
Mystic 7: gain Lesser energy channelling
Mystic 13: gain Greater energy channelling
Mystic 19: gain Exalted energy channelling

The least/lesser/greater/exalted abilities would be related to domain; so someone with the Heal domain can use one of their "Turn" attempts to progressively remove more damage (or types of damage?), Animal to gain animalistic traits for short time, etc.

(The levels are chosen on the basis of being "dead" levels, where no new spell levels, feats or ability bonuses occur).

Cheers!

People seem to be overlooking the fact that mystics have access to the entire cleric spell list (correct me if I'm wrong). There's more cleric spells out there than just about any other class of spells. That diversity can be HUGE.
