Is the Warforged hosed vs. the Warforged Domain?

I find this entire idea absurd. You chose a race based on personal preference. Then you find out that choice means your character is vulnerable to an "attack" that every other PC race is immune too... If any GM allows this in their game the Warforged best be getting a MAJOR bonus as an offset...

Agreed!

Such as... letting them be Warforged!!!

What force simply compels warforged? I find it bizarre.

I don't think it's any more bizarre than the Plant domain, which lets you turn/rebuke undead. There's precedent for this mechanic in a number or places.

Personally, I think that the only problem with this domain is that it just isn't very fun for the victim, and the victim is pretty likely to be a PC. As a player, it's generally more fun to roll the dice and have you character fail than to watch the DM throw the dice and have their character win.

I think it would be fine if used in moderation. Could make an interesting BBEG.

Given the existance of Charm Person, Dominate Person, Hold Person, Cause Fear, Symbol of Fear, and so on, you might want to rethink your position on how unique the handicap is. The mechanism is a bit diferent, but the effect isn't all that dissimilar from many others already found in the game.

"-Unlike other constructs, a warforged is NOT immune to mind-affecting spells and abilities."

So you are comfortable with penalizing the Warforged twice? They get to be vulnerable to mind influencing magic AND they can be turned/rebuked...

I think you missed Umbran's point. They are still immune to Charm Person, Dominate Person, Hold Person, etc by virtue of being constructs.

Also, the argument that they are being penalised twice is specious--Warforged are not 'penalised' by being vulnerable to Mind-Affecting spells because that assumes that they had some sort of right to be immune to those effects, but they don't--that just makes them the same as everyone else.

I would rather be effected by the various "person" spells than be immune.

So many times while I have been either playing in a group with a warforged or playing a warforged myself I have wanted to be able to be effected by enlarge or reduce person. One time it would have prevented a total-party-kill.

I would give my dm a good spanking if i was playing a warforged and we came up against clerics with the warforged domain on anything other than a rare baasis. Oh sure he could come up with some story about how we are going after a particular cleric sect or something or some such.

But then i can always just walk away :P
