Is there a reason you do not take a multi-class feat

Gaining a bonus skill plus a power. That is pretty good.

The only reason I can come up with is: you already have one =)

The best ones are:
Warlord and cleric w/ a healing power
Ranger w/ bonus damage to one opponent

The lame ones
Fighter +1 to hit once per encounter is uber lame.

How about: you don't care about or already have that skill, and don't need that power for your character concept and party role?

the ranger one is weak- it is only supposed to last 1 turn, not the encounter.

thats why the warlord/cleric ones are the best.

There's more to characterization than just optimization.

This is the best answer to all those "x is overpowered" and "why would anyone take y, z is better?!" questions. It's still a game.

If your definition of fun is "I need the best character possible out of all the options and I can't imagine something other"... In that case feel free to multiclass every character. :)

There is no logical reason to not take all of them, assuming any time you want a skill, and that skill is in another class's list, and you do not yet have the feat.

Not taking it is essentially gimping yourself on purpose for 'concept reasons' - akin to say, playing a fighter in a loincloth because its conceptually like Conan.

Perfectly legitimate to do that, but not a 'rational' choice.

At the least, the skill feat should have given something other than just half of the multi-class feat.

Except that you can only take one of them.

a) You can only take 1 multiclass feat. PHB 208, Class-Specific Feats, 1st paragraph

b) They are still useful for optimizing characters that have multiclassed, for example. But from a purely mechanical standpoint they are not as good as the multiclass feats.

c) Skill Training has no prerequisites. All the multiclass feats require a minimum ability score.
