Is this a cruel DM?

Good job. :)

Now, try and not get lynched by fellow partymembers in the process.

Might want to start progressing as a Rogue, since you don't have a spellbook, god, etc. Though I doubt you'll advance any.

Who cares if I get lynched? I never liked them anyway.

Just kidding. Getting into this CN alignment.

Hee hee.

And that's why the CR charts and the 'suggested treasure guideline' lists are useless, and the suggested treasure bit especially should be dropped. If a DM isn't tracking with them exactly, his players point to the book and complain. "I'm level N, I should have at least a +2 weapon and bracers of whininess by now!"

Dude... just quit the game. Tell the DM that you are not having fun in his game. What is the point in continuing the game (even if it's just to end it) when you're not having fun anyway? Your time could be better spent trying to find a new group to join, or writing adventures for future players in your campaign.

Not sure I quite understand. Please explain.

Methos.

Oh, sorry. I just meant that it may not be good to create more grief to get back at him for being so rough on you -- especially if you are taking it out on other innocent players. However, if everyone is okay with that kind of character and his actions, then it's fine. How do you think the other players would react to a character that betrays them?

Anyways, I think it's probably best to get it out in the open and discuss the problem rather than getting into a tit-for-tat situation where everyone loses. I probably misunderstood your post though, so please feel free to correct me!

Methos, before you try things that will almost certainly ensure that NOBODY has any fun (besides you perhaps), I really think you should give your DM the benefit of the doubt and just ASK him what he thinks is fun about his campaign.

"What do you think makes this fun for me?"

If he doesn't have a good answer to that, and you want to show him that you can trash his fun as well as he can trash yours, then go ahead and let the party die, loot their bodies, whatever.

But surely the BEST solution to the problem is that the campaign becomes fun for EVERYONE. And you abandoning the party and derailing the whole campaign doesn't seem to me like the easiest route to that goal. Perhaps your DM will repent and start changing his ways, but more likely he'll just blame you for ruining everything, get angry and nothing gets solved.

So ask him why he thinks any of this is fun for you. Maybe he has an answer that will make you rethink what's happening. You'll never know if you don't ask.

Good point. I'm not sure how the other characters will react. Although, if if is properly role-played I think that they may very well understand.

Just a bit of background. We have all played D&D since 1st Edition, although we have only been playing together for the past 3 years. I know for a fact that we have all played in different types of campaigns, including evil ones, so I think that if properly role-played, the other characters likely won't have a problem with it given our experience level in RPG's. Given my character's current state, I'm not sure that it isn't an appropriate response.

The way I see it, the character could either react in the manner that I suggested, or he could become a LG holy roller as a sort of "abomination hunter". In any event, such a shocking series of events, including the knowledge that you consumed another party member (sorry to be so graphic), would most likely lead to "breakdown" of some sort.

But, it may be a good suggestion to at least give the rest of the party a sense as to what has happened so as not to create ill will out of the game.
