Is this Character Too Powerful? Is it broken?

He looks reasonable for a melee brute at ECL 16.

However, I believe you have shorted yourself of two feats.

Character level 12 nets 5 feats at levels 1, 3, 6,, 9, & 12 and your single fighter level grants you 1 bonus fighter feat. That comes to a total of 6 feats to choose for your character, and you have only chosen 4 (Weapon Focus, Iron will, Power Attack, and Improved Critical.)

Over-powered? No.
A good melee machine, yes.
Broken? No.
Any spell caster of same level would be, imo, broken & over powered.

Example: My Psion (lawful Evil) would simply use an extended Death Urge, then grab some popcorn, watch & laugh as these big time melee masters would slay themselves as quickly as possible with full round actions wielding their big two handed weapons causing instant hits all with confirmed criticals . Usually 1 round this big ½ dragon could kill himself but just in case I always make my Death Urges extended...all with a Will save well into the 30’s

that to me was broken & over powered but I’m sure there are much worse examples out there this one just proved to be the most entertaining as the friends would undoubtedly attempt to stop him, oohhh how it was fun (for an evil campaign).

Sorry but I have to mention this. At 8'0 and 300 pounds, you could slip this guy under a door. :)

Okay, maybe it's not that severe but that is pretty lanky.

Thanks for all the responses. Its just that the other people in my group aren't exactly the best at creating characters. It seems that everytime I try to create a good character that takes the most out its abilities, everyone, including my DM, seems to think that I'm too powerful. When I try "powergaming", as some would call it, my DM seems to think that it unbalances the game.

Anyway, back to buisness.

I have several questions:

1. Would taking the half-dragon template be more advantageous to me than gaining more class levels?

2. What about the Frenzied Berserker prestige class from Complete Warrior?

3. What combination of class levels and LA from other races and templates would be best?

I see that there are several possible combinations:

1. Take all class levels. Maybe Frenzied Berserker 10/Barbarian 6.

2. Take one template/LA race and one to three less levels of barbarian.

3. Take multiple templates and a LA race and less class levels.

4. Include a few levels of someting else like Paladin and Ranger.

What do you think? Thanks.

P.S. And by the way, about the Charisma, I like playing stupid and uncharismatic barbarians, so I purposely gave myself a low inteligence and charisma. :D

It wasn't why you gave them low values, it was that you gave them lower than the normal (point buy) rules allow.

Cha 8 (minimum) +2 = 10
Int 8 (minimum) +2 = 10

Also, I would suggest against Frenzied Berserker given what you said about your DM. Not only is it powerful, but it has the downside of you frenzying most of the times you get attacked. Plus, for a powerful PC, it can get even worse. You will probably wipe out a fellow party member sooner or later since you have such a low Will save to get out of Frenzy.

Well, regarding the half-dragon, I only mentioned that because you already had it. THe advantage is flight, which is a BIG DEAL, but can be replicated with magic items and whatnot.

Depending on the campaign style, having claws and a bite can come in handy as well. The breath weapon is fairly useless.

Overall, you would most likely be better off taking class levels rather than the half-dragon template. Goliath is a good race, well worth the +1 LA.

I'll second the concerns about frenzied berzerker. That class, while insanely powerful, simply does not play well with others.

How about half-celestial instead of half-dragon? You'd keep the flight ability. And it's not immediately obvious, but are the spikes on his armour +4 or is his armour +4 or both?

For classes, is it worth giving up a few levels of barbarian (and thus Greater Rage) for Ftr 2 / Rgr 2?

Can he actually fly with that load?
