Is this monster concept already covered?

I'm pondering what template to apply to an NPC created by one of my friends. Basically, he's a wizard who didn't undergo the typical lichdom process, but who hung on to life through sheer force of will alone. I'm thinking possibly just a lich who utilizes Charisma more than Intelligence. But I'm also wondering if this type of concept's covered by an existing template. Is a Psychic Lich anything like this?

I've always thought that the Walking Worm was an interresting alternative to Lichdom. And as I don't think there is anything like what you are describing, I think the walking worm template (found in the ELH) is a good alternative for a spellcaster that simply refused to die.

One note though, in the revision booklet, the creature type for the walking worm is changed from ooze to vermin, but it's still good. :D

The Worm That Walks is indeed a good option.

Although I don't think your specific premise has been covered, the spectral mage from Magic of Faerun and the Revenant from Monsters of Faerun/City of the Spider Queen could also work with some modifications.

Psionic lich appears to be simply a lich that uses psionics rather than magic. It still must make a phylactery, etc.

If you want a more Charisma based undead, maybe the vampire would be what you're looking for.

As far as being a lich by willpower alone, I think the regular template would do fine. Even if he hasn't made a phylactery, you should give him some kind of object or place that he's tied to. Maybe he has some obsession with his library or a small carving he thinks has mystic powers. If the library is burned or the statue destroyed, it would have the same effects as the phylactery being destroyed.
