Is this WotC's pipe dream?

Are you thinking of switching your game to Next at this early date?

Sorry, another quick poll. I see varying degrees of enthusiasm, but the bottom line is - if the final version of the Next rules looks somewhat similar to the playtest (keeping in mind we have no idea what the final version will look like), what are the odds that WotC will convince you to switch your primary game to it?

As for me, as I've said elsewhere, my chief D&D loves are 4e and 1e. I've run both recently, and they complement each other nicely. However, given that I'm comfortable with either game, I have no need for a middle ground. So I'm unlikely to switch over, unless 5e does something to wow me.

Poll? Poll.

This is based on best current knowledge, and accepting that somehow WotC may manage to turn our opinions around 180 degrees.

EDIT: Quick note. I'm of course not asking if you would give up on any games you enjoy right now. I'm talking about one or more regular weekly/biweekly/etc sessions. Would one of those be likely to change to 5e?

If the final product is similar to what I've seen so far, and the reviews suggest a its a good game, I'll pick up the PHB and see for myself. My group never sticks to just one system, so we would likely try it out. No matter how good it is, however, we won't simply drop an existing campaign to switch over.

Special Snowflake - :)

I play a wierd mix of Pathfinder/3.5/MC's Arcanan Unearthed and some other 3rd party D20 stuff. I love the detail and such. The Wife GMs me solo. She doesn't mind that as a GM. As a player she finds it annoying - she prefers a lighter, more improvisational game. I plan to buy Next to GM her. :D

So adding rather than changing.

Why all this talk of switching? I'm not going to give up my games of Swords & Wizardry or AD&D just because I'm also playing 5e. I mean, I don't give up Traveller because I'm playing such and such version of D&D, why is this any different?
Likely as not, if the remainder of the game develops in a manner consistent with what the playtest has so far revealed, then yes I'll play 5e, but not exclusively or whatever. Not a perspective I understand really.

No one in my group wants to play 4e. I can't stand the complexity of GMing 3.5, or the boring combats. A couple of us would be willing to go back to 1e/2e and see if it was still fun, but just as many have no interest in doing that. We all had fun the first session of the play test.

If the final 5e captures whatever made that session fun, I'm pretty sure we're in. If it doesn't, I actually don't expect to ever play D&D again. That's not said with malice, just a recognition of the fact that I'm probably with my final gaming group and at least one of us refuses to play every prior edition.

Well, as noted below, it's a question of time.

I can only run 1 game a week. I have a 9-month old and a toddler. As such, I have one main game that I run, and other games I run as interludes on occasion. Right now, that's 4e.

I'm not saying anyone would swear off their enjoyment of other games or whatever. But at any given time, you're actively playing between 0 and X games; would you change one of those out for 5e?

I do not see myself switching from Pathfinder to D&D Next, though I do like several things in D&D Next. I think if I was to switch from Pathfinder it would be to something like Dragon Age or maybe Goodman Game's new game (though I need to look at that one a little closer too).

I'm still considering it. The playtest so far looks good, but I'm still not entirely sold on a few things.

I'm not a fan of having the skills that hardcoded into ability scores, although I could change my mind on that one.

I have the feeling it isn't deadly enough. But I need to see it in action first.

And of course there is still the point of the actual deal breakers. Those will have to wait until I see the actual finished product. Only then I could make an informed choice.

5E strikes me as just another Fantasy Heartbreaker clone of D&D. My main game right now is Pathfinder, and I don't see myself making this iteration of 5E my go-to game. At this point, were I to drop Pathfinder, it would probably be for either 2E or B/X.
