Item voluntarily failing a save.

I know a character can choose to fail a save (say, by not attempting to dodge out of the way of a lightning bolt- or attempting to dive into it as it were).

Can, however, a magic item choose to fail a save? Let's say, for example, a fighter carrying ONLY a magic sword gets hit by a fireball and rolls a natural one on his save. The sword is affected, and technically as a magic item gets a save to avoid the affects (or half them). If, for some reason, the fighter wanted his sword to take the full brunt of the damage- could he forgo the save? Said sword isn't intellgient.

SRD quotes would be awesome...

The item has no mind and so will not 'choose' not to save. Just because it gets the Fighter save bonus does not mean it will fail automatically, regardless of the Fighter's wishes.

"The randomly determined item must make a saving throw against the attack form and take whatever damage the attack deal."

"A creature can voluntarily forego a saving throw and willingly accept a spell’s result."
