Items and Prismatic Wall

First Post
I don't have the PH in front of me, so please bear with me as I am going by memory, but....

The violet part of a Prismatic Wall states that is destroys items and that it sends creatures to another plane on a failed save. I was wondering how this works in play:

Does it destroy any item, attended (or magical) or unattended, or just unattended, non-magical items?

If it does destroy attended and/or magical items, do they get saving throws?

If a creature fails its saving throw, do its items go with them, or are they destroyed?

I originally thought that the violet part of this spell would automatically destroy any item, attended or not, with no save, and then the creature would be sent, without any items, to another plane on a failed save. I thought this because it seems clear that items get no save for the other colors' effects. However, one of my players pointed out that attended items typically either don't need to save or else get their own saving throw on a critical failure of the attending creature.

So, how should I rule on this spell in my game?

Thanks,

Atavar

Here is the appropriate section in the SRD:

Items Surviving after a Saving Throw: Unless the descriptive text for the spell specifies otherwise, all items carried and worn are assumed to survive a magical attack. If a character rolls a natural 1 on his saving throw, however, an exposed item is harmed (if the attack can harm objects).

Look at it this way, a Lightning Bolt spell destroys objects too. If a character is hit with this spell then he or she gets a saving throw. Their gear is safe unless they roll a 1, and then only one item is going to be destroyed. The same spell could continue on to an empty chair and it would most likely be eradicated by the spell since it's an unattended object.

Technically by this rule Disintegrate leaves behind the gear of a targetted creature.

I can't see the Violet effect of the prismatic series doing anything differently.

Attended items are treated as part of the character, unless the effect description says otherwise. If you fail your saving throw against a transportation effect, all your items go with you.

If you roll a natural 1 on your save, one of your items is subject to the effect separately. For prismatic violet, that means it must make its own Will save or be destroyed. The character would get transported normally, but show up at the other end with one item missing.

ummm pris wall listing

The way that the powers of a prismatic wall are worded would seem to be that the first line of text (stops non-magical ranged weapons.... energy field destroys all objects and effects) would apply to unattended items and spell effects and similar things.
where the second line of text (deals 20 points of fire damage, reflex half... Creatures sent to another plane, Will negates) would apply to creatures.

this is based off the assumption of prismatic wall is a higher powerd version of prismatic spray (which only affects creatures)
