"Its a bowling ball" "It say's Homer"

So a digression on The Thread I Can't Believe Isn't Closed Yet brought up the issue of giving gifts that are really for the giver, not the getter. The classic example of course being Homer's gift to Marge of a bowling ball. ;)

Have you ever given or gotten a "Homer bowling ball"? (note, giving your SO sexy undies automaticly counts. :p ) I've given gaming products which I also wanted, so I'm at least half guilty. But on our aniversery, I gave the hubby the latest book in a series I flat out despise, on the logic that he would know it really was a gift for him (and a sacrifice since I had to hear all the latest details. :\ )

This wasn't me, but my (younger) brother told my mom that I wanted the Matrix 10-disc movie set, for which I suspect that he wanted himself. I then told my mom that she can return it if she feels uneasy about it.

Then my brother told me it was only $50-$60, and I had this confirmed, so I hung onto it.

I never said I didn't want it, I just thought that it would've been more economical for the movies. It wasn't.

As a kid, I used to give music which I wanted to listen to to my parents, though it was usually something I knew they wanted too.

I like to give my GF electronics, which I will use, but in many cases, it's because I'm tired of her yelling at me about how her old one won't work with her new comptuer correctly.

Thankfully, it's closed now. ;)

My fiancee and I give each other things that we both want every year, usually movies. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be receiving the DVD box set of the Clone Wars animated series this year, but if he doesn't give it to me I'll probably give it to him. :D

Wow, a double-reverse-Turanil-with-a-backflip! 10/10 for style!
Well let's hope that's taken as a compliment or this one will be next.

I don't think I've ever received a crap gift. At least I can't recall any. I probably just jinxed myself and will get nothing but crap this year. Oh well, I won't complain either way.

I've never gotten a gift like that, but my family and friends actually like me. Even if I did, I sure as heck wouldn't whine and cry about it.

Yeah, I'm kinda mad, because now I don't think I'm getting the pen that's on my Christmas list. :(

I hear that it's a really nice pen as well. It's a shame that someone worthy of such a fine gift won't get a chance to use it.
