Its a new campaign and your DM offers you the following options

I'd go for same race, although I'd prefer something along the lines of all orc or all hobogoblin, dragon, etc.

For the class, I think a one-shot (2 or 3 shot) campaign with all fighers in a military campaign, thieves in a urban-sprawl, or wizards taking down a murderer in the wizardly school.

Same race.

I also was part of an all-dwarf campaign. GM set up an awesome mythology surrounding dwarves and their hatred toward goblins (Dwarves were born from Odin's kidney stone).

We had a blast just playing over the top dwarves. At the moment, I can't remember any kewl things happening that were inherently dwarvish, but there were a few kewl individual moments for each of us.

An All Class campaign could work, I think. I would imagine that an all Bard, all Druid or an all Cleric campaign would have the best chances of succeeding. On higher levels, wizards and sorcerer parties become viable.

I've decided that all the same class would probably only work for a one-off 3-5 session bit.

I'm going to ask them to all agree on one class from the following races

Assimar
Dwarf
Elf
Gnome
Golliath
Hafling

If they pick Assimar, I'm going to ask them to create Exhaulted characters and I'll sweeten the deal by giving them a bonus (exhaulted) feat.

If they pick Golliath, I'm going to wave the Level Adjustment since they'll all be the same class (but I'll award XP as if they were one level higher than they are)

If they pick one of the other races I'll figure something out that they'll all get.

In any case, the chargen session will happen about 3-4 weeks before the campaign starts. We rotate DM's and the DM who's running now has to teach a class in the morning of the chargen day and didn't want to have something prepared for that night.

I've been toying with the idea of running a single-race mini-series or one-shot for quite some time; it sounds like a blast to me.

I have a wacky idea for an all half-orc game: a city decides to expel its entire half-orc population based on the actions of an infamous half-orc assasin who has eluded authorities. Once expelled, most of the new half-orc refugees wander-off with some destination in mind, leaving the PCs and one other half-orc NPC.

The NPC says he knows how to find out the location of the assasin's secret hideout (ouside of the city), and tries to convince the PCs to come with him to find the assasin and bring him to justice, in order to show that not all half-orcs are evil killers.

Of course, in a twist of irony, the NPC is really the aforementioned assassin, planning on setting up the PCs as sacpegoats for his next massacre. Right? :D
