It's nice to be so loved (or: the world of IT is insane!)

Did you just apply for a job at AgF... in Columbia? :)
On the 8th, I put in for a position in Columbia as a Windows Systems Administrator. Monster said the name of the company was NIC Inc, but I think that's probably a tech recruiter rather than the actual employer.

I apparently e-mailed a separate e-mail address directly for the same job on the 12th, too - I'll tell you, I've been putting my resume so many places it gets a little hard to follow.

Whatcha know? Have you seen my resume (other than on ENWorld), and if not, is that someplace I should apply? :)

Just I heard someone from Florance applied:

Senior Operating Systems Programmer (Position #20) - ....

Torm, I don't know if it'd help you, but I look at a lot of university websites for job listings. Try www.emory.edu, click on the careers link, and check out some job listings. They have a few IT positions, I know. Big universities like Emory tend to be pretty reliable, from what I've heard.
Thanks, I'll look there. The only problem with universities, from what I've seen, is that they want to hire university graduates - whereas I have completed 'Some College'. And its hard to sell them on the idea that you don't actually need a degree to do a job, 'cause that's their very trade. :\

Nope. Wasn't me. If they say "Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience" then I apply, but without the second part, I know my resume will just go in the wastebasket. Plus that job has a few requirements I don't have - programming, mainly.

Torm, I just spoke with a recruiter in Charlotte, NC who mentioned that they "were even looking for tech support folks". Which is not typical. Apparently, a lot of the financial mergers have created a huge demand for people in that area.

I'll ask her for more specifics. Where do you live? Why don't you go ahead and forward me your resume again, in case I need it.

Headhunters annoy me. Most of them are cold-calling me with nothing to really offer, or they are calling me for a position I am over- or under- qualified for and only looking to see if I know anyone interested.

My first experience with one was back when I was living in Syracuse NY, but looking to move to the Boston area. A "recruiter" called me about a job, sounded really good so I decided to interview for it. I was working a job I really could not take time off from, so I called in sick one day drove 6 hours to Boston for the interview and drove back the same day. When I got to Boston and started the interview I found out that the position was not a permanent position, it was a temp job, it was likely to be eliminated in three months and the headhunter worked for the temp agency - they did both temp work and permanent placement. I was steaming mad at that headhunter the whole ride home. Next day I called him and his response was "I'm sorry, how about I offer you $2 more per hour."

Oh man, this is crazy. CRAZY!

It's a long story. Allow me to explain.
<SNIPS his long story of many job offers

*Cries*

Not really, I like my job. I'm a temp at the HD at one of the grad schools at Harvard. But getting this job was pure luck (I answered a Monster.com offer and I guess I was one of the first qualified people to write). Before that I was just sending resumes out, hearing nothing, had a temp job for two weeks and then nothing for a month, etc. I have gotten plenty of calls from recruiters since I got this job, but since they keep extending the temp period (and I'm going to law school next year anyway) I haven't called any of them back. But, man, sounds like your "narrow skillset" is getting you lots of offers!

That may be part of your problem... no programming knowledge..... Maybe you should try for a tech support job.... Some may be up your experience alley. Especially if you're dealing with customer computer systems.

That and Dell's opening a manufacturing facility near me and they're hiring all over the place.

Good opportunity to learn POS systems anyway.

That I have lots of knowledge on.... especially when they love to crash at the most inopportune moments.... :]

"Shut up and reboot!" has been quoted many times at work. :p
