Don't overdo it, just a tablespoon full!
Just for a slight kick? I tend to go for dry rubs, but I'll either try a wet rub (or a marinade) or I was considering trying it as a sauce.

I just grilled perhaps the best steaks in four years. Marinated for about 4 hours, juicy, tender, cooked to rare perfection. Go me!

Whew...and I thought this thread was heading for a lockdown.

As a recent-ish convert to vegetarianism who still gets the meat craving occasionally, I just have to say that you're a big mean jerk for starting this thread.

Mmm, steak...
I'm guessing you're a real vegetarian, not one of us say-I'm-vegetarian-but-then-turn-around-and-eat-fish vegetarians, right?

If so, try grilling a portabello mushroom, seasoned with salt, pepper, tamari, and olive oil. It's delicious.

I'm NOT a vegetarian, and that sounds delicious! :)

My biggest problem is that my wife is home before me, and though I love preparations for dinner like portabello, meat marinades, etc. I rarely ever get to cook them, and she's too beat from the day's events to really get into it, herself. I think what I'll start doing is fighting off the tired, and start the marinade the night before, and try to have everything done but the heating. All this talk is getting me motivated again. :)

It's pretty great (although I realized i put both salt and Tamari on there--you really only need one or the other). I eat fish, so most of my grilling is salmon fillets or the occasional tuna steak cooked ultra-rare, but the occasional vegetable grill is worth doing.

I only learned to use a grill recently: I've got a Weber, and for several years i thought it was stupid, because if I grilled things on the lower grill, they were way too close to the coals, and if I grilled things on the upper grill, they were way too far from the coals. Then one day I realized I was supposed to put the charcoal ON TOP OF the lower grill and cook on the higher grill, and after I got over feeling like the world's biggest doofus, I started turning out tasty grill treats.

Another vegetarian suggestion: while most meat substitutes are pretty bland and shouldn't be grilled, there's some decent vegetarian bratwurst out there. Boil them in a mixture of onions, beer, and cayenne pepper for a few minutes before grilling them, and they're not half bad.

I may not be so good on the grill, but I am master of Cheesecake, Chicken, and Pasta Sauce. :] And since I never use measurements, EVER ('cept for baking, of course), you shall all be ignorant of my masterful recipies. Fear my culinary wrath! :D

Oh, it's ON now. I'll put my cheesecake fu up against anyone's! :D

(Hmm, a thread that started about beefcake and is now about cheesecake and doesn't offend Eric's Grandma--is this a first?)
