Don't forget that the artwork makes your eyes bleed. Strangely I like his art in the rest of Dungeon, but it just doesnt work for me in a strip.

I think that this is because it's just so busy, whereas the smaller pieces of his art elsewhere in the magazine are generally just a single creature/character/item on a white background. That said, I don't particularly care for his art in either format. Oh well, it's not a deal breaker for me or anything.

QFT.

Though I'm apparently in the minority in this opinion. Poor art and an incomprehensible story, IMO.
At various times since it started, in various threads/polls, Downers approval rating was about 2%. Maybe folks like it more now, I still don't so can't say. I think a lot of folks have just gotten used to it. I mean, if it was replaced with something else, I doubt many folks would notice, let alone complain.

Or, to put it another way, it's got a lot less support than Polyhedron had, but no one cares enough to stop buying the mag over it, so it stays.

Vote 1 for great comic/story. I don't purchase/read any comics other than skimming the odd one in the FLGS but this one has got me waiting for each month's instalment. Like others, I found it hard to read at first but after about the 10th one and finding myself completely lost, I went back and started over and it all fell into place. I love the originality of the monsters as the main characters with very few "normal" races (elves, dwarves, humans etc) around. Original story, and funny in a black humour kind of way.

There are references to the D20 and older editions of DnD system all through it,
e.g. Downer gets in a fight with kenku, the next strip starts with a shot of him after killing them all and some notes on his condition: hp = 3 and looking like crap.
Or the copper dragon that gets a gift of a 1st ed monster description of a copper dragon.

Downer is a bad guy but a likeable one. A nice change of pace from the rest of the magazine but if Paizo decide to pull it then I hope Kyle keeps it going as a web strip. Probably what hurts it most is that Kyle only gets 2 pages to cram everything in, more space might make it easier for more people to get into...

Can't wait to see how things work out for Downer and his weird friends.

It's not something you can read just one comic and fall for, I think. I decided I liked it when I started preping my AoW game- I was reading through the adventures, and I needed a little distraction before going on to the next. As I read more, and went to my back issues to fill in gaps, the whole thing made a lot more sense. A few months ago, I wouldn't have cared if it went away; now I look forward to each installment, and I curse only seeing two pages of it a month.
