Good Folks,

David Chalker, son of the well-known imaginative literature author Jack Chalker, emailed me today to inform me that his father had died. I am much saddened by the news, as he was a good man and a friend. I first met Jack back in the 1960s through a SF fanzine where he and I were frequent contributors--as was L. Sprague De Camp BTW.

He will surely be missed by many others besides me.

sincerelt,
Gary

How sad. The Well World ignited my imagination so strongly when I was a kid. Those were really great books, books that really help to define my ideas of what a good fantastic story was all about.

Thanks, Gary, for letting us know. I remember his voice very strongly.

There is a link to Chalker's site over in the Dead Celebs 2005 thread in the media news forum. Apparently he's been ill for quite some time and as happens so often it seems a domino effect of small things led to bigger things.

It's always sad to hear of influential authors passing away.

Arthur Miller passed away recently too. ... Not that that makes this thread any better.
