According to Wikipedia, Liverpool is derived from Old English, not Welsh.
I'm sure that's true, I think my point was more that the two used to crossover. Keep in mind that you could walk from one to the other if you were so inclined...
However pwll (Welsh) also means pool. But Llan means church, not river.

It's not far from Liverpool to Wales though, we used to go on day trips when I lived in Liverpool.
Right! I meant that they were using the same style naming convention, not that they were the same place.
 



I've made up a lot of names by scrambling the letters of whatever happen to be on hand at the time, and maybe switching some out for others that make the same sound. That's how I got the deities Dephak and Macrax of the city of Pilabum
 

Had a cleric in the game I ran in high school named Tappan, after the brand of stove that was in his eyeline from the kitchen table he was sitting at during character creation.
