[James Bond] The next movie directed by Denis Villeneuve

How many Bond villains were actually Cold War spies or governments? Very few.
Bond villains generally were third parties exploiting cold war tensions for personal gain.

Doctor No: A mercenary who was employed by the Chinese government to sabotage the US space program. Part of the SPECTRE organisation.

Goldfinger: Looks like a smuggler plotting to cash in on gold futures, but it's the Chinese government who supply the nuclear device with the intent of undermining western economies.

From Russia with Love (AKA the best one): British Intelligence attempt to steel a coding machine from the Russians. But it is a SPECTRE trap aimed at acquiring the machine to sell to the highest bidder, and discredit British Intelligence. (Also the line "Red wine with fish, I should have known!" is character defining.)

Thunderball: This is just an extortion plot by SPECTRE.

You only Live Twice: SPECTRE still being employed by the Chinese to sabotage rival space programs.

After this point, they start to become more villain focused. It's all about Blofield (and stand ins), not his organisation (Test Match Special).
I like the too powerful individual(s) approach better than governments anyways.
This approach makes it painfully obvious that Double-0 agents do not exist in our world.

One thing all those rumoured actors have in common is they are 28/29. When he made Doctor No, Sean Connery was 31/32.

It wouldn’t surprise me, if those rumours are true, if a Doctor No prequel is on the cards, set around 1960.

I think the first James Bond movie I actively disliked when I first saw it was Die Another Day. I just stopped caring and I thought the invisible car was gimmicky and silly. Were there other gimmicky and silly Bond moments before? Of course, but I was much younger when I saw them and it didn't register. (I really liked Goldeneye.) I really enjoyed Craig's first turn as Bond in Casino Royale, but my enjoyment of his movies went down with each subsequent release. I did respect the last movie for having the balls to kill Bond though.

At this point I don't have a whole lot of interest in Bond, James Bond. I remember someone asked Matt Damon about additional Bourne movies and he said something like, "I think we've ridden that horse about as far as it'll go." That's how I feel about James Bond. But I'm open minded. I didn't think I'd be interested when Craig took the mantle, so maybe I'll be interested when there's more information about the next movie available.
