[James Bond] The next movie directed by Denis Villeneuve

Goodbye Daniel Craig
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
Despite all the naysayers' catcalls
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered your blond locks were lame
They put you in a franchise treadmill
And gave you a license to kill

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a martini never stirred
Never knowing that you only use gin
Because a vodka martini is absurd
And I would've liked to known you
But I was just a kid
You preferred to know the ladies
Women, booze and killin' is what you did

On a serious note, Portishead would be the best choice, albeit thirty years late.

Personally, I think their most recent (??!!!?? 2008 ??? ugh, getting old sucks) Third is arguably their best, but I have weird and eclectic tastes and it's a little more grating than I think would be appropriate for the mainstream.*

*I love it, but I had it on in the car the other day and the passenger told me she thought she was having an aneurysm listening to one of the tracks.

I grew up in the British Isles both watching the movies and reading the books. One of the reasons I strongly enjoyed Daniel Craig as Bond was that I felt he had the necessary coldness. James Bond, in the books, shows an ability to be clinically businesslike and switch from romantic mood to a brutally cold one -- hard to read the last line of Casino Royale and see Roger Moore (for example) delivering that line.

I'm not saying that I want the movies to be just like the books; they were written in the post-war period where British people loved reading about exotic locations and interesting food (Fleming spends maybe 5x as much time on Bond eating as he does on Bond romancing, easily). But Bond, in the books, is much more introspective and I like how they are bringing that into the newer movies also.

As far as Villeneuve is concerned, he's a high quality director with a range of genres under his belt and clear ability to deliver blockbusters. There is no reason to think he will not do a good job.

Was that the album they recorded machine guns for backing tracks?

Pretty sure the machine guns were used for the soporific parts of Third. They recorded the discordant screams of hell for the other tracks. ;)

...but in a good way. Really!

For a second there, I thought you were suggesting Boy George should be the next Bond.

Heck, some Mr. Hollywood moneybags will probably insist on casting Pedro Pascal under the mistaken impression that he's literally in every movie these days because audiences love him.
I mean, that is why he's in every movie, he's one of the most generally "beloved" modern stars, but yeah it doesn't mean he's a good fit for Bond. He'd make a pretty good Felix, though...

Re: casting pull generally I agree - it's unlikely he'd have final say re: Bond because Bond's actor will almost certainly outlast him as you say.

Carte Blanche would be a great Bond girl name.
In a Sean Connery voice; "I took the liberty with Carte Blanche"
I remember an episode of Father Brown where the bad guy had the last name Chapeaunoir. This too is a Bondish villain name in my opinion.
I like the joke, but I'm gonna use it to suggest that "Bond girl" is a concept that the franchise needs to finally grow past. Unless she is actually Bond. And a woman.

and there goes one of the elements that makes it a Bond movie. I said in the previous discussion when Amazon picked up the rights and everyone was suggesting basically not a Bond movie, "folks want Bond but not Bond"
