James Wyatt + Eberron

Eberron is too new for changes? How old was FR as a published setting when they "blew it up" for the first time when 2e came out? I mean, it wasn't much older than Eberron is now, was it?

FR was around for quite awhile before the grey box came out, in the form of Dragon magazine articles.

Elminster first appeared in Ed Greenwood's ecology articles, pages from the mages had pre-Grey box FR content, I believe Myth Drannor first appeared in an Ed Greenwood Dragon-insert adventure pre Grey Box as well.

But I think the larger point they were making is that Eberron doesn't really need fixing to the degree that FR does, to make it more PC-centric.

So I don't think age has as much to do with this as need.

And yes, I know a lot of die-hard FR fans think the setting is perfect, but I always felt it was more focused on the NPCs.

Hmm... that's a good point. I always tend to look at the first publication date as the "zero hour" on the timeline, but in the case of FR, there was a considerable amount of material available before the publication of the gray box.

That said, and I don't really know because I don't have it, I thought a lot of folks say that the gray box didn't have those proplems you associate with it; those were later problems that developed mostly during 2e.
