Princes of the Apocalypse Session 3

Day 6 to Day 15

I had a strong group of seven. I had a very strong group of six. Geronimo Barbarian 3 Half-orc. Ember Life Clerc 3 Human. Liu Fang (Lue) monk 3 Aasimar. Phillip Druid 3 Tiefling. Zephron Twilight Cleric 3 human. Aurai Circle of the Moon Druid 3.

As they as seating down to breakfast at the Swinging Sword Sherrif Harburk Tuthmarillar (11) invites himself in for coffee. He opens with small talk and then asks about.

Grund Male Half Orc works at Mellikho Quarry page 28 and is a vendor at the market on his off days. (21)

They were either long time residences or some temps who sleeping in Mother Yalantha and he asks about the missing Sly but get no real good excuse. He asks the group to be on the look out and mentions for them to keep a look out for them. He also mentions Bloody Treasure (page 150) and The Last Laugh (Page 150) and mentions the rewards. The group says they will check out the sites and the rest of the town and they will stay out of trouble.

The cop also mentions the town elders. Ilmeth Waelvur human bandit Waelvur Wagonworks page 27. Dornen Finestone Head of believers Page 26. Albaeri Mellikho of Mellikho Stoneworks human female pot belly page 28. Baragustas Harbuckler male retired carpenter page 157. They generally meet once a month for taxes and coffee at the bakery.

The group checks their map and decides the Bloody Treasure would be a good one-day outing. But it would just be one day. As they get to small crevice, they smell blood and decide to jump over it. They awaken the stirges.

This complication has been brought to you by. Liu who rolled a 14. Two Earth Guards and four Cult robbers decide to ambush the party as they are swarmed by a dozen stirges. The fight is intense but goes strange and evil at the end. One fat stirge flies away scared when the robbers who are trapped in spike growth throw themselves on to ground chanting “the earth is mother, the earth is father.” And the remain earth guard pulls a holy hand grenade out which cause the party to scatter. As he about tosses the weapon into the crevice with Ember, he is killed and falls in. The mold earth grenade traps him in the crevice. It takes over an hour to dig him out while the other bodies are being looted. And amazingly it fits Zephron.

Book, “You awfully generous with my loot drops.”

Returning to Red Larch in the afternoon of the next day the decide to exchange the armour at Ironhead Arms (page 27) where Feng Ironhead is amazed, they had not cleaned the blood off. DM, Note He starts at half price and either upgrades or down grades the price. Roll percentage dice 51 and over he gives a percentage more. Fifty and under he gives less. This will change as you shop with him more.

On the way back to Mother as they have free room. Yes, it just the ground floor where you lay your sleeping bag but it free. Sly approaches. He smells like he been dead for about five days. It is not Sly but the person who he killed five days ago in the Moving Stones. Just as they thinking about hiding the zombie the cops show up. Liu distracts the Sherrif enough so the clerics know it is necromancer and earth magic who raised the murder victim. So Sherrif Harburk is looking for a necromancer since this is the first undead in sixty years.

To clean off they visit Haeleeya (bathhouse couldn’t put that in paragraph title could you book). Haeleeya (Lee for short) runs the only bathhouse in town. Liu is made to go around to the back to get splash down as a first cleaning. But since it is Leaffall and he has not shirt on, she takes special interest in him. In fact, he gets the Ivory soap while everyone else gets the lye soap. He engages her with small town. And while she starts to talk town gossip, she stops herself. When the new stove for the Swinging Sword arrives, they go on a date. Her side hustle is dresses and shirts for the town folks and visitors. They are slightly upscale and she will do a pink collar with spikes for 2 GP and 5 SP for Mary Jane.

Lee is the contact for the Emerald Conclave and will get a report to Aurai on day 20 (Why does the dm have homework?)

In the morning, they finally meet the baker, Mangobarl Lorren page 25. He provides most of the town bread for 2 SP a loaf. He mentions the Haunted tomb (page 149), the Moving Stones (Page 153), the Summit Hall (page 43) and has the local gossip.

They set out for The Last laugh and get their around noon and spend the next four hours trying to track down the laughter. Liu, “It would be only an hour if those others would not get into a contest on who could blow the bigger bugger.” The skull is a laughing death maker. A rare form of undead which calls other undead to it. Ember does not figure this out until after she puts into her pack.

They return to Red Larch and find still no Sly. So, they move on to Anderil Farm. This complication is brought to you by Geronimo who rolled a 13. It is Leaffall and the weather is still on the chilly side as they mean a mixed group of Water cultists in tank tops. And since exchanging precious body water, some of the group decide to find some nearby bushes to get sweaty.

Fade to black. NO, it is an ambush. The cult gets a hand on everyone but Philip, Ember, and Aurei. A great fight breaks out with Zephron fleeing from the encounter due to short staff issues.

They dress and loot the bodies.

We will pick this back up a mile or two from the farm. I should have Emerald report created by next session.

I had a strong group of seven. I had a very strong group of six. Geronimo Barbarian 3 Half-orc. Ember Life Clerc 3 Human. Liu Fang (Lue) monk 3 Aasimar. Phillip Druid 3 Tiefling. Zephron Twilight Cleric 3 human. Aurai Circle of the Moon Druid 3.

Story Award for the Kids. You dragged two dead kids to the big town to get them resurrected. Two free casting with out material components of revivify or raise dead.

Story Award Family Feud. Germino has picked the nice side of family and went against the Iceshield Orcs. Iceshield orcs respect you. You can move their attitude one degree toward you.

Story Award. Its Knights we want to be. Sir Erned Stoutblade has ten percent chance of showing up to help you out. (Also, he gets death saves.)

Story Award. Bought the Farm. Kerbin Dellmon gave you the deed to local farm house with forty acres. It is empty for some reason. All tools you need to move in. No livestock. Just ask Germino’s relatives why not.

As the group is looting the dead the sounds of a merchant chart is heard coming over the hill. Cow bells and tin bells can be heard. A Chinese (Chou?) dragonborn appears.

“It is I Fai Chen. Merchant to the stars, the bars, and wanderers. Cash for some goods. Trade for others. Trade +1 dagger for +1 great sword can do. Sell +1 dagger for cash no can do. So, what say you?” says Fai Chen. (Fai Chen is the AL magic trader who generally show up at cons.)

Germino, “Can I get armour made for Mary Jane?”

Fai Chen opens a drawer and puts in two cookies, “Hey elf you have special order. Special order doesn’t upset us. No. No. Not smoke Mary Jane. Make armour for bear. Oh, only in hot pink with purple racing stripes. Okay. Price is paid get on Keebler.”

An hour goes by. Dark smoke is rising in the distance. “Bye now Iceshield Orcs gave me shrimp and grits recipe to delay you. Have fun cleaning up after raid.” He snaps his fingers three times and disappears.

Arriving at Anderil farm Germino kicks in the door and yeets the monk into the fire. Liu Feng chips a burning beam in two and rescues Selwyn Anderil. Zephron does a quick healing. The Iceshield orcs have been raiding the local farms the last 15 days. The raid happens just finished thirty minutes ago and they are headed east. The group moves out fast and catches up with the orc raiders. The first wagon has the kids and second wagon has the kids. Both are driven by oxen.

Germino, “Marvin is that you? How is Aunt Lulabelle? Why are you with these no accounts? You better get home before I tell your maw!”

Marvin, “Yes cousin Germino! See you at the family reunion at Christmas.”

Germino, “Uncle Lewis is that you? Stop this nonsense rid now. Oh, heck no you didn’t just throw a javelin at me. It is Miller time. Time to crack a cold on and bust some heads. naughty word they killing kids. Kill them all!” The dust settles only mother Maygan survives. Ember agrees to take the family to Westbridge while the rest moves on to the Dellmon Ranch. It is two days to Westbridge, and about five hours to the ranch.

Arriving at the ranch after dark, the group is folded into the defenses. With about 45 people in the compound (page 165) it is kind of crowded but the raiders don’t arrive on the first day but do around eight the next morning.

Germino, “Lew when did you get out jail. Stop this nonsense. We will kick your ass up into your shoulders.”

Lew, “I just out seven days ago and.”

Germino, “Seven days and back to your old ways. I see you got your girl friend Sally May with you. Sally May, I still see you getting your hair dye from Piggy Wiggly!”

Sally May, “Oh it is on!”

Sir Erned holds the barn door for the entire battle not letting any one in. Guard number three kills Lew and holds back six orcs himself. Zephron keeps up his Twilight Sanctuary over most of the ranch. Liu Fang and Dire wolf from Phillip hold the west side through most the battle. And the barbarian bar the north door.

The battle falls silent. Forty-one orcs lie dead. Sixteen famers and children lie dead. One lone orc escaped. The mourning begins.

DM Note Thanks for running the farmers NPCS. Hey the map was only ten feet off this time. Good job.

I had a very weak group of three Ember Life Clerc 3 Human. Liu Fang (Lue) monk 3 Aasimar. Phillip Druid 3 Tiefling.

As they are on burial detail, Ember is offered squiredom from Sir Erned Stoutblade. This gives her a small presence in the noble circles. And contact with Order of the Gauntlet. She accepts. Hearing earth cultists are at Feathergale Spire in the Sighing Valley; they decide to raid it quietly.

Liu Feng flies up the plateau driving piton in for the other two. The stables are in the basement of the spire. Phillip makes good friends with the hippogriff and they sneak upwards. Passing the ground floor, they spy on Phil and Lill who are taking about cooks and guard duties. Moving on to the third floor they raid it all and come away with loot and notes.

Merosska,

We are pleased to hear about the outcome of your altercation with the Black Earth cult, and we praise you for the capture of one of their prisoners. This noblewoman from Waterdeep has an interesting tale to tell, and we shall enjoy interrogating her further. Keep a close watch on the Sacred Stone Monastery. I want to know what our enemy is planning next.

Sneaking back down to the second floor they kill Phill and Lill but nearly get the whole guard on them. But Ember is able to able to take Phill down. Sneaking up to the top floor and beat the stuffing out of Merosska and bring him back to his room. Merosska is not an earth cult member but an air cult member. They take trophies of earth cult tapestries when they can. He nearly bluffs the group to let him go but that does not happen.

Sneaking again down to the kitchen, they kill the Fred and make Smokey cook dinner. Moving on to the green house for an hour they make friends with Tommy and Chucky and make a dinner date in three hours.

Moving on to the gate house they try to bluff Savra talking about the back door, but there was no back door. So, two more air cult members fall. They eat dinner and try to escape only to be discover by Dill. Dill does not survive.

They arrive in Red Larch and go looking for the necromancer cave. But they only find two ogres who don’t last long.

We will start outside the Necromancer cave next session.

I had an average group of five. Ember Life Cleric 4 Human. Liu Fang (Luo) monk 4 Aasimar. Sly sorcerer 4 changeling. Bucky Berserker Barbarian 4 human. Zephron twilight cleric 4 human.

Zephron moves some bushes aside and sees the cave opening to necromancer lair. Ember pops light on her shield and the group moves in. A lone corpse lies forty or so feet in.

Ember, “Zombie.”

Zephron, “Corpse, and I pop the next light spell.” He pokes the dead body and is punched in his chest.”

Ember, “I win.” As the first zombie is killed, a trio come out of the center hallway and activate a trap which knocks Zephron off his feet. The group slides down the slope and starts fighting zombies. Taking out the second wave, they move to right hallway and shuffle their order. Liu Feng wakes up five skeletons and seven corpses. As the dust settles, these are fresh skeletons and zombies. Their clothes are or were freshly press. Taking a short rest, they move into the left hallway where the zombies were a noble family. Stealing dad’s clothes, Sly finds pocket lint as his reward.

Moving on they go on to sneaky mode but the workshop and it huge. And well lit. Liu sees some crawling claws, skeletons, zombies, and Oreioth the necromancer. Oreioth, “Welcome. Are you here of a job? Living or nonliving?”

Liu Feng, “Sly. Sly I have someone you need to talk to!” Sly enters.

Oreioth, “What are you doing in Ned’s clothing? For a second there I thought you were a zombie.”

Sly, “He had better clothing than me. I love his tailor.” The two discuss how to well dress a zombie and the fact Sly had started a rumor of a zombie coming back to life when he shaped into zombie from session three.

Oreioth, “I don’t have dental plan but I need people to collect bodies for me. Three gold for a fresh corpse with the face intact.”

Sly, “What about a burned body.”

Oreioth, “Those are only one gold because those become skeletons.”

Sly, “group huddle. Do we want to earn some extra cash?” The group business plans are discussed in the other chamber while the necromancer waits. The discussion takes fifteen minutes before Sly and Bucky is over ruled. (This was a fun discussion and I allowed no dice rolls for the decision. Wish I could do it justice.)

Liu, “Hey Oreioth we punching out!” Oreioth, “But you not on the clock yet.”

Liu, “No we are punching your clock.” Oreioth, “naughty word. NOT the face.” A few rounds later.

Sly, “Hey my new lair has an escape hatch.” The group looks at him.

The group returns to Red Larch where Sly uses subtle suggestion to get the building permits to build his house over looking the quarry. (It will be done on day 56.) Their contacts get the location of Riverguard Keep. They get to river at night fall and spy a keelboat poling down the river. For five gold pieces and strength cleric and stupid cleric help, they pole back up the river to see if they can gain entrance by the water lock.

At seven thirty the next morning, another subtle suggestion spell cast on Reash gets the chain lowered. As they about to make landing, Shoalar Quanderil on the Riverwind starts asking questions. Questions the Sly cannot answer.

Initiative.

DM Notes. We will pick this up at K 13 and K 10. And the Players know about the lich not the pcs.

I had an average group of five. Ember Life Cleric 4 Human. Liu Fang elemental monk 4 Aasimar.

Phillip druid 4 Tiefling. Zephron twilight cleric 4 Human. Geronimo way of beast barbarian 4 half-orc.

Shoalar Quanderil, “You will take a dirty nap adventurer.” Reash, “Form of Water snake.” He dives into the water. And his allies leave the building to assault the keel boat from land. Arrows, javelins, spells, and punches in the face knock Sholar into the water. He rises out of the river on a tidal wave which crashes into the keel boat. With Zephron HP temp HP ability, no one dies.

Pike jumps on to keel boat and KO ‘s the captain. The water snake grabs Geronimo in a wet hug.

Geronimo, “Get you summer hug off of me.” She is grabbed into the water. As Shoalar rises again on his tidal wave, he takes spells to the face but the wave wipes out the crew of the keel boat. Sholar swims under the boat. And the chorus enters the boat. The fight is hard especially with Shoalar snipe magic missiles from the water then dunking under. Most of the enemies are dying.

Phillip, “Form of a wolf eel. And I dragging Shoalar under so he can’t cast spells.”

Shoalar, “I have a SWIM speed. Which means MAGIC MISSILE to your scaling face.” The bear and barbarian wipe out the water snake, and Phillip puts the final bite to Shoalar. Seeing their keel boat slowly leaking, they steal the row boat using the eel as a horse. Liu casts light as they enter the hidden tunnel. The water cave takes up about half the space of the castle, just Phillip is about to make landing. Six water ghouls attack.

Ember, “Why is the boat slowly. naughty word. Ghouls. Turn undead. Pull in the druid.”

Zephron, “The line is heavy. Oops!” Splash! He can see five ghouls retreating as one is nibbling on the druid in his own form.

Geronimo, “I got one. No two.” As she pulls in the ghoul and druid. She is punched in the face, and Phillip comes out his paralyzed, he punches the ghoul, and the bear cleans up.

After cleaning up at the landing the group find a secret door and secret staircase. They take a quick nap and move on. Geronimo opens the second door.

Geronimo, “Rats you are having breakfast with out me. I bet those biscuits are lardy and you call them scones.” She lays down a line of bs which gets some other people into the hall.

Jolliver Grimjaw, “Why are you here?”

Geronimo, “For breakfast!”

Jolliver Grimjaw, “What!”

Phillip, “Sue the clownfish wants you to stop throwing your trash into the river!”

Jolliver Grimjaw, “Huh?”

Ember, “To kill all you water cultists! Oops.” Grimjaw shifts into wereboar form and the fight is on. The group spreads out but Urshnora runs toward the door and casts invisibility on himself. Two over reavers attack the party. Urshnora leaves the building as they finish killing off Grimjaw. A slightly pause as some of the party finish off the reavers. Ember leaves the building.

Liu Feng, “I charge the door.” The water priest casts sleet storm in the room. She then closes the door and leads against it. She waves to Ember. Liu ice skates to the door and punches to pieces. The chapel choir attack Ember and Liu while a guard shouts encouragement.

Urshnora leaves the fight and enters the barracks. Zephron chases him with Moonbeam.

Liu Feng, “We are losing. Time to leave!” He high kicks the priest off the cliff and hears a splash. They start a fighting retreat up the starts and to north east tower, in hopes the can make to the docks. Geronimo flanks and starts an unfriendly arrow exchange with the guard at the north west tower. Phillip casts spike growth and the barracks backup is too smart to go into it.

Zephron runs for the tower, “The priest is out the water.”

Priest, “It is Drosnin. Line of sight, distance, and MAGIC MISSILE UPCAST to your face. Now you have no face.” The twilight cleric goes down.

Liu Feng, “I will kill her.” He dashes into the tower, pass three furry creatures, out the door and down the steps. “The tower is clear! Go.”

Drosnin, “Magic missile to your face.”

Liu Feng, “You not upcasting it!”

Drosnin, “Nope out of upper-level slots. And this means punches to my face?”

Liu Feng, “Yes it does.” Drosnin, “rats.”

Ember, “You didn’t tell us about the bugbears. Icky. Bugbear armpit hair in my face.” The monk back tracks and goes to save the life cleric. The rest of party starts collapsing into the tower unlucky the druid takes an arrow and lose concentration on the spike growth. They start dashing to Sholar boat. The monk karate chops the anchor rope with his fist releasing it from the dock.

Zephron, “Wait a minute I forgot something.” He runs back into the tower slams and locks the outer door. “Why is the boat leaving? Wait for me.” He jumps.

And misses the boat.

He is fished out the river by the bear. He wonders. Did they defeat the water cult? Did they win?

Zephron, “Hey DM go check the victory conditions, like you said you would during the write up!”

DM, “Huh. OH. Be right back!”

With their high command dead, the water cultists think on what to do. Yes, you hit the victory conditions.

Liu Feng, “I was just blowing wind into the sails.”

Phillip, “I was just swimming alongside as eel.”

Geronimo, “well the river boat is stuck in top of the tree. So, we will have to walk back to Red Larch. It going take us a day.”

The first part of the day is okay until they reach the Revivers Ambush. Shoalar Quanderil, “take a dirt nap adventurers!”

Ember, “How are you alive?”

Shoalar Quanderil, “great Revivify and raise dead medical with the water cult.” Five minutes later Shoalar is taking a dirt nap but did reveal the secret tunnel under the Riverguard Keep.

Arriving in town Liu makes date plans with Haeleeya. After dropping a huge amount of five gold, she reveals that Sacred Stone monastery has changed hands to the earth cult. After a great night, the group moves on to the monastery. Liu has a cunning plan. He will post as monk to get entrance.

Liu, “I am Liu Fang, monk of far east. The wind billows my cloak on how awesome I am. I would like to join your group.”

Bob, “Bob from Birmingham. I just though you had a case of the winds. But I will take you to Quarbo. He handles admissions.” Liu notes the path to the main office. Quarbo and his two body guards scope out Liu.

Liu, “I am Liu Fang, monk of far east. The wind billows my cloak on how awesome I am. I would like to join your group.”

Quarbo, “Quarbo of the quarry. We are a very simple group of monks. HEY DM what is with the spooky music? First you must give up all your material wealth.”

Liu, “Including my cloak of billowing. I won through.”

Quarbo, “Walmart black Friday Special. Not so hot.”

Liu, “but I didn’t get from Walmart.”

Quarbo, “so ripped off from Esty. You must give up all material wealth.”

Liu, “Here my cloak, and cash.”

Quarbo, “You must give up all material wealth.”

Liu, “Here is my back pack and shirt. Just me and my underwear.”

Quarbo, “You must give up all material wealth.”

Liu, “I am not giving up my chest oil. Give me back my stuff.” Bob escorts him to the end of the property line and waves good bye. But Liu did get some information. Scouting gives them more. The second cunning plan. West group, East Group, and Kick in the door group. They will all go in at dusk and meet at the main office.

(DM NOTE did a five-minute timer and then switched group. Will summarize.)

East group opens the door into the indoor garden and using language skills and earth cult garb confused the gargoyle guards. The guards wave to them as they enter the main office.

West group invades the kitchen just before dinner time and microwaves (Spirit Guardians) the staff. They move into the refectory and nearly die. But the monks are more interested in taking prisoners than double tapping. Zephron double taps them with microwaves and then enter the main office as the umber hulk disappears into the floor after snacking on Bucky.

The door kickers flank right. The Scriptorium is empty. The stairs are scary. Mother Abbess punches hard but goes down after ripping off a handful of chest hair from Liu. The Distillery is empty. The monks in the dojo try to dog pile Liu but that doesn’t work. The last door is arcane locked and when shrunk, the door knob nearly puts out Magic’s eye.

A ghost goes by. Oreioth the dead necromancer walks by Philip. “Hey Phil. Come me my boss.” Renwick is a nice old dude. Kind of smelly. Loves flower gardening, necromancy, press flowers and bodies under large heavy objects. He is currently subleasing the place and would you kindly do an old Lich a favor and evict the cultists.

The group takes the contract and meets up with their buddies. And then murder the rest of floor using moonbeam and spike growth.

DM Note Take a long rest. And you have the basement next time.

I had an average group of five. Ember Life Cleric 5 Human. Liu Fang (Luo) monk 5 Aasimar. Zephron twilight cleric 5 Human. Geronimo totem of bear Barbarian 5 Half-orc. Philip way of the moon druid 5 Tiefling.

The group descents the stair into the basement. An open cage is to the level. Alabama red clay surrounds a coffin and a door is to the right. The right door leads to a crypt with six zombies in leather armour. Which don’t last long. The loot is sparse. And the sarcophagus of Samular Caradoon has double occupancy. A semi-fresh corpse of knight is also in the thing. His name is Narl Elrok and it has an embalming spell on it. The two other exits in the crypt lead either upstairs or into the maze of the basement.

Exploring the maze takes a few minutes. They surprise Jurth an Orog and her buddies who are on their rounds.

Philip, “Hi basement inspection.”

Geromino, “Just ignore my blood thirsty friends. The cooks burn the biscuits and dinner was extra late.”

Liu, “We murderhoboed the first level. Can we murderhobo these people?”

Geromino, “Now don’t attention to my friends. Just give us those jail keys and tell us where the jail cells are and we let you go!” Jurth is happy to go along and mentions where the jail cells are and departs quickly. The rest of the maze in up in a dark scary forbidding stair well.

Liu, “Sounds like a hint from the dm. We will explore the rest of the level.”

Bruidenthar is the most important prisoner of the seventeen. She thought they were the rescue team. But the delegation with Narl’s body was attack. Some of their sage’s books were taken. Bandits on flying vultures attack the earth cultists. The vulture team took Desyna Norvael. The where abouts of the sage is unknow. And Rhundorth and Teresiel were taken below deeper into the ground. The group rounds up the survivors and moves them out of the complex. They return to talk to Renwick. He has thirty empty bottles around him.

Renwick, “I am dead drunk. You. You fellows have done good. I don’t like. Good. I was a good guy. Long ago. You have not stinky Paladin with you so you are alright in my book. My books. Where are my books?” About a half hour later Renwick rewards them with some magic loot and promises not to let more earth cultists in. But they will have to clear out the temple below later.

The adventurers high tail to Red Larch and on their first day back start to try to figure out who J is. But they have already eliminated all the known criminal elements in town. So, they hit up Garlen and Zomith at the Helm. Zomith knows nothing but hints that she should be the night watchman at the mansion they are building. Garlen recognizes the writing as Justran Daehl his cellarer. When the guy finally arrives in the evening Germino finds out he rattles very well. The spy is shaken. Shaken and not stirred and shaken again till he confesses. He is spy for the water cult and know Grimjaw keeps the password to the deep-water cave in his room. He is tossed in jail.

It takes a day to get back to Riverguard Keep. They decide to move in at night using the monk’s fly ability and pass with out a trace. Geronimo is nearly spied as she is climbing the rope but being deep in shadows helps. Ember casts a silent spell on the roof about Grimjaw’s room and lets the barbarian break and enter. The rest of group has fun catching tiles and roof pieces until a hole is cut in the ceiling. They repel into the room. They loot. Do they scoot or raid.

They raid. And passing the first door Geronimo trips and four Crushing Wave Reavers attack. Seeing they are out fought; one tries to flee to the main gate tower. He is cut down but not before the guard on walking patrol is alerted. But he is frozen by a hold person. As he is being cut down, the monk spies another guard on the south walkway. He barrels into the gatehouse, and out the door killing the southern guard. He then puts an arrow into a guard who trying to get his pants on. As that guard rises, he sucks a couple of magic missles and the party raids the gatehouse. Holger is the last one to die in the gate house and the group decides to attack the barracks.

The lion druid kicks open the door and the two clerics pop spirit guardians. With guards pouring out the second door, the monk and barbarian attack. The microwave of death nearly takes out the guards when reinforcements show up. Urshnora is the last one to back up the guards. See this is a losing fight she tries to run but is chased down by the monk who stuns her and hugs her. The two spirit guardians of doom catch up with Liu and that ends the fight. As the silence settles on the keep, the enemy either runs away or is captured. The groups loots and marches the prisoners to Red Larch.

In the morning while eating at Helm, the dwarf architect sits down unwanted. The extra supplies coming through Womford are late. The group leaves before the biscuits and gravy are served. Just before Three PM they come across a suspicious convoy heading south.

Philip, “Nice wagons. Full of carpentry and mason tools and supplies. Interesting.”

NPC, “So what. Lots of construction going on around these parts dude.”

Philip, “Listen dude show me your shipping manifest and bill of lading.”

NPC, “Are you a cop? No. Go away.”

Philip, “Yes, I am a cop. As in Crush yOur Privates and feed them to the bear.” Wagon six blots! A javelin, guiding bolt, and spike growth stops it but the oxen are killed. The debriefing begins and the Zhents are willing to talk. It seems the wagon train is theirs, and their headquarters are at the Bargewright Inn just an hour away.

Philip, “we can take another dozen of you.”

NPC, “We have forty.”

Philip, “We come back in three days. Let’s make camp.”

DM, “That was too easy. Zephron pull a wandering encounter out the bag. Hmm. Watchful Knight rolled by Liu Fang.” Read mumble, mumble.

During third watch, the Watchful Knight approaches Liu and is impressed. Liu has a Helmed Horror for three days.

Liu, “We attack the inn at dawn. With pass without a trace up.”

DM, “Okay you guys design the huge inn the way you want it. Stables have to hold six horses. Why do the horses have to enter the building to stables. Beat a sixteen and seventeen to sneak up on the outside watch. What do mean only the druid got fifteen and everyone else has twenty plus/ Ha bad guys has seventeen for initiative. They go in the middle.”

PC pop two spirt guardians, a flying Helmed Horror, conjure animals, and angry bear. Forty-five seconds later, they have three prisoners. And a fully stock bar. They drink a little bit. Loot a little bit. And talk to the survivor. Then got into Womford on their five stolen horses.

Chalaska, “Hey we have horse rustlers in town.” Philip gets off his horse and approaches the woman. Starts brushing his mustache with her silver comb from her room.

Philip, “Only three of your gang survive. Do you really want to do that? I think you should go away and think on your life choices.” Chalaska looks at the seven to one odds.

Chalaska, “I hear Waterdeep is fun. Bye.”

The group return to Red Larch dropping off the supplies and prisoners. They hear the location of the fire cult and strike out for it. But just before they get there, six heck puppies attack and are killed.

DM notes. House delayed 5 days. You are four miles from the Scarlet Moon Hall.

the social dice was way with the party. And this was a filler session for them to clear some minor quests.
