Hey there!!

What I wanted to find out was just what all Can a Jedi do using the Force and also what can the Sith do as well?

Watching the Clone Wars has piqued my interest and I don't want to read all the books just for the sake of finding what force-users can do with it...
For one thing I thought the “Force-bubble” attack the underwater Jedi did seemed out of place?!

(I guess while we're at it, how do you feel any of the existing game systems handle the users of the Force?)

Also I guess while we are at it as well, what do you guys think of dropping the pseudo sci-fi trappings and treating it as full on fantasy?
Rather than lightsabers just swords and rather than magic there is the Force.

Just want info and opinions, talk amongst yourselves! ;)
And thanks!!

The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant...

Well both the Jedi and the Sith can do a lot of stuff using the force... Some powers are universal, like sensing your surroundings, telepathy, telekinesis, and regulating the workings of your body... And since the Sith partially come from the first Dark Side devotees among the Jedi, there are a lot of similarities in other techniques as well... here are soe example to what the Jedi and the Sith can do...

Jedi, and other light side users:
Telepathy, Telekinesis, Sensing Force/Surroundings, Farseeing(future, past, different location, other people), Healing themselves and others, controlling body functions and boosting abilities, talking to beasts/animals, Jedi Mind Trick(altering perceptions of others), illusions, ability to absorb/dissipate energy(yoda in Ep2), increasing combat prowess(both with and without a lightsaber),instinctive astrogation, severing one's connection with the force, create a holocron, becoming a force spirit to help/guide others(though the jedi/lightsider eventually becomes one with the force)

Sith, and other dark side users:
Telepathy, Telekinesis, Sensing Force/Surroundings, Farseeing(future, past, other locations, other people), Healing themselves(healing others is not really an act assosciated with these guys), controlling body functions and boosting abilities, Jedi Mind Trick, illusions, causing supernatural fear in others, Controlling the Minds of Others, ability to absorb/dissipate/drain energy, wiping out the programming of a computer/droid, alchemical creation of dark side artifacts(dark armor, sith amulets, talismans and swords), control storms, kill/injure others telekinetically, fire of bolts of dark side energy in the form of force lightning, using force to augment combat abilites(both with and without lightsabers/sith swords), instinctive astrogation, creating holocrons, unleashing Force Storms of immense destructive power, clinging to life after horrendous physical injury(aka pulling a Vader), transferring one's life essence to another vessel(clone, other body, building etc.), becoming a dark side spirit(unlike force spirits, dark side spirits can linger on in the galaxy until destroyed and can possess others)

Well those are the things that come to my mind, might be missing some. Remember that a Jedi can technically do the things that a dark sider can do as well, but then I don't think he would be much of a Jedi after doing so.

Hope that helps

I wouldnt recommend the books anyway, as Lucas feels no compunction to follow anything written as he moves forward. The books are some kind of strange apocryphal pseudo-canon and anything in them must be taken with a grain of salt.

I think the d20 Star Wars system is great. I'm not familiar with the d6 version.

I'm all for it, but the list of powers is very limited, and the lightsaber is part of the balancing act that makes the Jedi classes what they are in relation to the other classes. I'd say some kind of minor class ability needs to replace the lightsaber, and some more powers from Green Ronin's excellent Psychic Handbook, which operate pretty much exactly like force powers, make this feasable.

Thanks!

Alright, Thanks for the info guys!

And the heads up about the GR Psychic Handbook
I'll have to check that out.

Well I guess it would maybe be possible to make a lightsaber in a less technologically advanced setting?
Since watching Clone Wars it looks like the crystal is the key component?
IF it needs a high-tech power source maybe the Force use could have the crystal enhance a sword to act more like a vibroblade. And then you would have super swords like Hollywood likes to use. ;)
It could strengthen the blade and enhance it’s cutting power.

I think that both the light side and the dark side are of equal power, but using the light side and getting more in touch with it requires years of patience, contemplation and control. Whereas the dark side allows you to use it to the max with minimal patience and training, so seems more powerful. Also since destruction is an aspect of the dark side, you can perform a hefty amount of it with dark side powers

Also using the dark side extensively eventually corrupts your physical form and affects your psyche... But I like how those that are strong in it explode with dark side energy after their bodies are killed.

Am I the only one who gets the feeling that the Dark Side actually is more powerful?

I think the Dark Side has a lot of potential to cause destruction on a mass scale. Jedi obviously cannot do this because it goes against their code.

If you were to pair off a Dark Sider v. a Light Sider, both equally trained, equally powerful, environmental factors aside, I think you'd have a pretty even match. The Dark Sider would have a lot of offensive power to throw out: force lightning, force manipulation, force-pushing and force throwing things, etc. A lot of dirty tricks. But the Light Sider would have some pretty hefty defenses going for him as well, specifically the absorption and dissipation of force. Think Yoda and Dooku. Those two were pretty evenly matched. Neither ever really had the upper hand, with force powers and lightsaber prowess.

Also when you are a powerful but are teethering on the edge of the dark side, it seems to give you impressive combat abilities... I mean look at Luke, he is a farmer with haphazard training but when Vader made him angry on the Death Star Throne Room, it didn't take too long or too much effort on his part to send Vader back home crying to his mama.
