Job Pay: another etiquitte thread.

Ok this just bugs me. I wasn't going to post but it still bugs me. This is just WAY to passive-aggressive for my taste. This thread is about Queen getting a raise and us being happy about it. If you want to bash her job, then start another thread about it (which you can't because it's political in nature).

As my momma always said, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." :]

Hey reveal - thanks.

And, like I said earlier, jmucchiello - I'm not questioning their motives - they may have been backwards or shady or whatever - doesn't matter to me much because I enjoy my job - not for the politics - but for the people. (as a side note - DDC is not a political company. We are non-partisian - simply advertise/grassroot-inize for the highest bidder... so, take that as you will - good or bad.)

I'm just glad to have the extra cash in my pocket. :)

I don't think the comment was meant as a "bash" against Queen Dopplepopolis, but rather a slight show of distaste at the practice. In any case, I'm sure everyone can understand working somewhere you don't necessarily like for the business.

Actually, I know you weren't questioning their motives. I was. I thought perhaps you might accept that someone would give you some advice that you should question their motives. If you don't want to do so, that is your choice. But I (and thus in my opinion) would not want to work for someone who plays (head) games with me regarding my salary instead of offering a proper pat-on-the-back for a job well-done.

If you don't need your boss to respect you that's your business. I find the idea of waiting to offer you proper compensation until you ask for it disrespectful and if I worked there, I'd be looking for a better job elsewhere.

I didn't think it was passive-aggressive at all. I was just surprised by the kind of company she worked for and typed "Ick..." It was my honest reaction upon hearing of her employer. If we had been speaking face-to-face, I would have said what I said above (without the wikipedia link :) ) upon hearing about DDC.

And if I had wanted to talk about astroturfing, yes, I would have posted a new thread. Instead I wanted to talk about being respected by one's employers in the face of getting better pay in an underhanded manner.

I truly appreciate all the advice that has been given here on this thread - that's why I start them from time to time... and, I've taken the advice to question their motives... in fact, I have questioned them - and opted to stick with the position. It's not my career, it's the job I do between classes for some extra money in the bank account - it pays better than workstudy, has better hours than waiting tables, and employs a large number of people that I really enjoy working with.

Thanks for the advice, jmucchiello. I had never heard anyone have anything but good things to say about what I do - both from inside and outside of my company. I appreciate your honesty - a whole new perspective on things. :)

Congratulations on the raise Queen_Dopplepopolis! I think you handled it very well, and were properly rewarded for your efforts. I probably would have brought a copy of the ad in and said that I wanted to apply for that job, as it pays much better than my current one. (I didn't earn the superhero nickname [deep voice]Cynical Man[/deep voice] at work for nothing!)

And, just to be even more cynical (pay discussions do this to me, sorry), my last two promotions came because I was doing the same job (doing it better, with more seniority, and doing other things besides!) as someone else who was a higher grade level than I. But I can't really complain, because I make good money, have very little debt and don't want much of anything beyond what I already have. So, overall, my life is pretty good, despite the way I've had to back into promotions.

Congrats again QD!

-Dave

Well done QD!

OK -- from now on, we're going to start asking you for advice. When you ask people for things, they do exactly what you want. Would that we were so successful.
