Job Pay: another etiquitte thread.

Well done!

Though, frankly, in your position I would be veeery curious to know exactly why it was that they offered the job at $Y and claimed there was a raise to $Y all ready and waiting for you, as long as you asked.

I'm guessing that either there was a total disconnect--they advertised at $Y with no idea that you were making $X--or Stan had an "Oh, fudge! She found out!" moment and quickly recast it as an assertiveness bonus. Either way, not to be a downer but I'd be keeping my eyes open after this.

As is the case with most things in life, no one wants to pay anyone more. So, it was a bit shady on the behalf of my boss to not offer me the extra $$/hour, but I can understand why he wouldn't.

Whether or not it was a good natured thing or a "crap she found out" thing - my paycheck is going to be much larger come the 15th, and I cannot complain about that. :)

Yea, I agree, it's a little dirty that they were probably aware they weren't paying you what you were worth, and they knew that. Still, if you love the work, and love the people you're working for, that accounts for something.

I recently asked about a raise at my job because I know that there are people who have worked there for less time than I have who make much more than I do. And I'm really good at my job. But when I asked, I got a "Yes you definitely deserve a raise. We'll look into that the next time we have a budget for it."

I took the job originally because I like the work, but I've never made so little per hour before and am having trouble paying my bills. Anyone have suggestions for someone who's request didn't go so well?

Find another job. If you can't pay your bills and your company won't give you a raise, then it's time to look elsewhere. Who cares if you like your job if you're living in a cardboard box?

I'd tend to agree, Xath. I know you love what you do, but it's not worth it if you could be making more elsewhere.

Someplace else on campus, maybe?

Ick, you work for an astroturfing company.

Regardless of my feelings on astroturfers, I would wonder how "nice" it was of your bosses to hold back on giving you a raise until you asked for it. How nice of them to not pay you what they thought you were worth while waiting to see if you thought you were worth it too. Instead of coming to you out of the blue and saying "hey we like your work and so we're giving you a raise" they decided to hold onto that money until you stumbled across its availability.

Ok this just bugs me. I wasn't going to post but it still bugs me. This is just WAY to passive-aggressive for my taste. This thread is about Queen getting a raise and us being happy about it. If you want to bash her job, then start another thread about it (which you can't because it's political in nature).

As my momma always said, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." :]

Oi, that's rather shady. Still though, congratulations on the raise. I'm likely to ask for one soon myself.
(Edit: "Astroturfing" I mean, not posting about said practice.)
