John Rogers to write new Blue Beetle!

My guess is that the next Beetle will be a woman. Probably a young blonde woman in her early twenties. Any takers on a bet?

The artwork I've seen (which may not be the actual artwork, mind) seems to be of a man with a full face mask. Either that, or a very, very flat-chested woman. FWIW, though, I can't seem to find one of the pieces I've seen, and the other one (on the first page here) doesn't appear to be by the books artist, Cully Hammer. So I could very well be wrong.

Do you have someone in particular in mind? (I"m guessing you might be thinking Chloe Sullivan, but I'm not sure.)

No word on who's gonna be the Beetle. Just that the Blue Beetle scarab (a mystical artifact given to Ted Kord by the original Blue Beetle) will play a role. But first the scarab will show up in Infinite Crisis #3.

And of course, in Egyptian lore scarabs are related to Ressurrection.

No, although I like Chloe. I just thought it was an inevitable dynamic: Booster is such a horndog, wouldn't it be interesting to see a young woman take over the role of his best friend?

Not that impressed if that is the new Beetle costume. Not different enough.

While I've been reading everthing, I thought to myself "Hmm, I wonder if Booster Gold will takeover the role of Blue Beetle?" He's certainly in a position to do so, he has access to all of Ted's stuff. Probably not going to happen, but that was my first thought.

Funny--the same thing was being discussed at my local comic shop yesterday. It would be a wonderful way for Booster to honour his friend, wouldn't it?

It would be a great way for him to honor Ted's legacy, and it would get him out of the rut that he is currently in. I haven't been following whats ben going on in Booster Gold's life (or Blue Beetle's, for that matter) much, but it seems that Booster's not really happy doing corporate sponsorships and being a generally publicly known hero.

Newsarama just posted an interview with Keith Giffen (who gives high praise to John Rogers). While he was silent on the details, here's what he confirmed in the interview:

- It's not Ted Kord.
- It acknowledges the entire Beetle legacy, from Dan Garret to Ted Kord.
- It is not a 'bwa-ha-ha' book.
- The new Blue Beetle is a hero, but is nothing like, say, Punisher.
- Giffen called the new Beetle a 'he'.
- No confirmation or denial about Booster Gold becoming the new Blue Beetle.

Personally, I hope it's not Booster Gold. I've been reading BG for a long time now and while it would certainly be possible to make him the BB, eve nsecond hand heroes generally return to their roots or origins. By avoiding making him the BB, they avoid all that in the first place.

It'll be interesting t osee what they dow iwth the scabbard itself since the last time I saw it in the BB comic, it rose the old BB and tried to have him kill Ted.
