Journeyman base class in Dungeonscape?

JPL

Adventurer
Just notice this text in the preview for next month's Dungeonscape:

"For players, the journeyman class is a cunning wanderer, a jack-of-all-trades who can cope with anything the dungeon throws at him."

Interesting. I know I'm allways interested in a general "adventurer" sort of base class...

Nifft,

I think from what was said by one of the authors *forgets which one* the Journeyman is good about judging stonework, finding secret doors, etc. Stuff in a dungeon which a rogue might find but probably easier. Possibly might have darkvision too.

So... Dwarf Rogue! ;)

Crothy,

I think the idea is to be more of a "finder of ways" than a guy that is a rogue.

Nifft,

Well as Crothy pointed out, probably without sneak attack ability. But should be like a dwarf with greater awareness of a dungeon setting.

While I'd rather see a more generalized wanderer / adventurer class, it would actually make sense in a D&D world for a base class that was a straight-up dungeoneer, with his whole shtick revolving around dealing with the threats and obstacles you encounter in dungeons. That would make a hell of a "fifth man" in a lot of parties, provided there was not too much overlap with the rogue, in particular.

That would be interesting...someone with a nice skill set like a rogue without the sneak attack ability. I never saw Indiana Jones stab anybody in the back necessarily.
