Journeyman base class in Dungeonscape?

My vote is for something like a rogue/ranger skill set with +6 or more skills pts, bonus feats every few levels, trapfinding, all good saves, d8 hps, and 3/4 BAB and maybe some special abilities having to do with the major trapmonkey skills. Maybe a built in luck system / action point system. But I guess thats a lot like the extreme explorer from ECS.

I'm surpirsed this thread hasn't come up yet; I'm been mentioning me looking forward to the Journeyman base class for a couple weeks now, ever since I came upon that text in the book page.

In any case, I'm getting Dungeonscape and Complete Scoundrel for my birthday from my friends, so I'm psyched :D:D

cheers,

That would be interesting...someone with a nice skill set like a rogue without the sneak attack ability. I never saw Indiana Jones stab anybody in the back necessarily.

He's been known to knock someone out with one punch if he suprises them...

Try the Savant base class from Dragon. Pick the 1e version or the 3e version.

Don't get me wrong Virgil, I LOVE the Savant. It's a great class and I wish more people knew about it. But I am curious to see how it stacks up to the Journeyman class.

Given how many monsters are immune to sneak attack, a trapfinder who's main combat ability is not nerfed when the foes don't have guts / can't be flanked / have blindsightcould be a good thing!

Mayhap good bab or slowed spell progession with all spells being class spells.

While I'd rather see a more generalized wanderer / adventurer class, it would actually make sense in a D&D world for a base class that was a straight-up dungeoneer, with his whole shtick revolving around dealing with the threats and obstacles you encounter in dungeons. That would make a hell of a "fifth man" in a lot of parties, provided there was not too much overlap with the rogue, in particular.

Following up on this...it would also make sense for a class such as this to have limited spellcasting abilities, including some spells with specific application to dungeoneering and some utility spells like cure light wounds. That would make this guy a true jack of all trades, and again, a great fifth man.
