July 27. Gary Gygax Day?

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers, for he who games with me this day shall be my brother, be he ne'er so vile, this day shall gentle his condition, and gamers not playing today will hold themselves accursed and hold their gamerhoods cheap, whilst any speaks, who gamed with us on Gygyx's Day!

I would be happy to celebrate two days in his honor... Birthday and GM's day. At the very least on GM's day a portion should be devoted to the ultimate DM.

I tend towards simple solutions. We already have a GM's Day. Gary Gygax passed away on GM's Day. So we celebrate GM's Day and the achievements of Gary Gygax at the same time.

/M

Gary's birthday should be Gygax Day - but GM's Day should stay as it is: two holidays are not too much for the man who gave us all the stuff dreams are made of!!!

This. It makes sense to leave GM's Day as is to celebrate Game Masters everywhere, and have Gygax Day on his birthday to celebrate him specifically.

Indeed. Whatever higher force (read: the Big GM) guides us through our lives, it saw fit to impose this confluence of events in a single day, to live forever in the minds of gamers everywhere.

I wouldn't want to go against the Big GM's decrees. Seems he Rule Zeroed us on this.

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot to write this before, since Gary so often wrote it in his posts, but:

"Ciao, Gary"

March 4th: GM's Day. When we celebrate all GMs, including our "DM Prime".
July 27th: Gygax Day. When we celebrate the man and his life.

I can live with Col_Pladoh getting two holidays.

IMHO (for what it is worth) GM’s Day should stay GM’s Day. It will now, aptly or otherwise, also include thoughts of someone that many of think of as the Great GM in the sky. E.G.G.

I agree fulheartedly. You cannot invent such a connotation as fate itself has presented by this unlikely coincidence. Anything else looks artificial in comparison.
