Quite possibly my favorite novel in the genre withwonderful supporting character development and and interesting twist on Covenant's "dream" with Hile Troy.

I'm switching gears and reading "It's the Middle Class, Stupid!"

I have to admit that I have trouble putting down the Covenant books once I get started. I really liked the first one and read the second one in just two days.

Then I finished Poul Anderson's book that starts the Dominic Flandry series called Ensign Flandry. The beginning set-up was boring, but the middle and end were pretty good and I ended up liking the protagonist.

I picked up the entirety of Jack Vance's "The Demon Princes" in a nearly 800 page hardcover for only $9 at the local used bookstore; this was on another ENWorlder's recommendation from the June reading list. So far I'm halfway through the first story and am hooked. Because of the size and my schedule, this will probably take me into August.

If you liked that, I bet you would LOVE the Troy Trilogy from David Gemmell. A true masterpiece, as his swan song. He died after book 2 was released - his wife (who was also his editor) finished up book 3 for him, and you could never tell. It flows beautifully. A "re-telling" of the Trojan War, through the eyes of the participants, with several twists and turns that set it apart. Some of my favorite books ever, I highly recommend them.

Just finished "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller. Lived up to and even surpassed all the rave reviews it has been getting online!

It is a retelling of the Trojan War from the point of view of Patroclus, Achilles' companion and lover. Lyrical, moving and very good at bringing the early Greek world to life. A SUPER read!

From a gamer's point of view, it brings the interaction of the Gods and Mortals together in a very clear fashion; I could really see how to play a deity in and of the world.

Great find! I love thrift stores. I got the first series of the Chronicles of Amber in a thrift store, and my first taste of Saberhagen.

I'm reading Justice Hall, one of a series of books chronicling the adventures of Sherlock Holmes after he officially retired as a consulting detective.

Done with Company of Liars. Lots of great medieval detail, but the ending was a bit of a letdown. Will definitely read more from the author though.

THE WEIRD, an anthology of weird fiction short stories going back over a century. Edited by Ann and Jeff Vandermeer. It's an enormous book, and I'm only about a third of the way through, but I've enjoyed every tale (and some have been exceptional). Recommended.

About halfway through "Garden of the Beasts" (which is great) - and I just picked up "Spies Against Armageddon", about Israeli special forces & espionage over the years. I heard the author on talk radio yesterday talking about it, and it was an instant buy. It sounded amazing - can't wait to dig in.
