Just because the Warforged is mentioned in a playtest doesn't mean it's in the PHB

Everyone's jumping to conclusions too quickly. Warforged characters in the playtest have either been a converted character from 3.5e in an existing Eberron campaign, or the instance of a player asking to get the chance to play one.

This is true, but it does not mean that they're not in the PHB, just that there's no evidence that they are. :p

How come no one is really saying anything about the Elan being in PHB1, since they've been mentioned in playtests too?

No-one care about the Elan. At all. I mean, oooh, it's dude with funny-coloured eyes, -2 cha and some extra PPs. Only PPs don't even exist yet in 4E, so basically it's just a dude with funny-coloured eyes.

It's not the same sort of campaign-rocking stuff as huge Robot-men who are immune to about 20% of the threats PCs face. I think people are mostly scared that if Warforged are in the PHB1, they'll be in any campaign-setting that gets significantly modified with 4E, like, say, the FR, or that every game they try and run with strangers with the DI virtual tabletop will need a "no Warforged!" disclaimer (of course, after a few years, most virtual tabletops will need disclaimers disallowing a multitude of annoyances).

OMG, Elan are in the PHB!!

Thanks for that, Kobold Avenger. I was planning on getting 4e but now I think I'll go on a killing spree with a machete instead.
