Just got Races of Stone

I just flipped through this book at my LGS. Thus I cannot comment on the content (though the LAST thing I am interested in is more feats, prestige classes, pointless sub-races, etc.).

But the art looked QUITE WEAK. Quite weak indeed. Worse than Unearthed Arcana.

Dwarven
Moradin - Greater - male - LG
Hanseath - Lesser - male - CN
Laduguer - Intermediate - male - LE
Mya - Greater - female - NG
Roknar - Lesser - male - NE
Tharmekhul - Demigod - male - N
Thautam - Intermediate - male - N
Valkauna - Intermediate - female - LN

Gnome
Garl Glittergold - Greater - male - NG
Callarduran Smoothhands - Intermediate - male - N
Gelf Darkhearth - Intermediate - male - CN
The Glutton - Lesser - ???? - CE
Rill Cleverthrush - Lesser - male - LN
Sheyanna Flaxenstrand - Intermediate - female - CG

I can understand (I guess) using different gods, but, what chaps me is that they left out the height, weight and age charts for goliaths. OOOPS!

PS: Blast, beaten again.

Does any prestige class actually have something new, or are all just recycling of existing abilities?

All new. For example, the dwarf Battlesmith allows a dwarf fighter to craft magic arms and armor with NO innate spellcasting capability. The battlesmith DOES require help if there is a prerequisite other than simply caster level however.

Also, the book does a wonderful job of reprising the class substitution levels that were introduced in the otherwise dismal Planar Handbook.

Dwarves get racial substitution levels for: Cleric, Fighter and Sorcerer. For starters, the dwarf cleric uses d10s, the fighter d12s and the sorcerer d6s on the levels he is allowed to substitute.

Gnomes get racial substitution levels for: Bard, Illusionist and Ranger.

Goliaths get substitution levels for: Barbarian, druid and rogue.

I think I know my gnomish gods lets see....

Garl Glittergold - Easy to say that he isn't new
Callarduran Smoothhands - I recognise the name, so I say old
Gelf Darkhearth - New name to me.
The Glutton - This might be the 'Blind Mole' or it might be new
Rill Cleverthrush - Again a new name. Very new. Quite sure it's new.
Sheyanna Flaxenstrand - See above.

Really? I rather like it.

Sheyanna? A gnome goddess!

IIRC, in Demihuman Deities, gnome goddesses were a bit like female ents. When asked if they existed, you would get for answer a sad look and a "Yes, they did, maybe they still do."

If the Glutton is Urdlen (which it seems to be), it makes three old (Garl, Callarduran, and Urdlen). The others are all new.

For Dwarves, only Moradin and Laduguer are old.
