In 5e, levels 17+ are called epic. Just like levels 1-3 (or 4, I forget) are called apprentice levels. Its in the book.

*raises eyebrow* The character in question is one of the new Companions (yes, they did expand), and had a larger page count than the barbarian and some rather significant plot points. Kind of a notable character.

Actually it was Afafrenfere who used the Quivering Palm but he is not a Companion. They have not expanded. New characters appeared but they never were considered part of the Companions.

Also although Afafrenfere did used Quivering Palm he was just a conduit for the power of Grandmaster Kane.

Is there a new Erin M. Evans book coming out soon? I need to read a D&D book with characters I enjoy...

Cheers!

I usually find myself falling in line with your reviews. The odd thing is the part about Erin Evans and her last book dealing with the Sundering story line. I could not get into that book as it was too Teenager/angst for my mid 40's taste. Are you referring to other books she's written?

I haven't read her latest book yet, but I have read her Sundering book and the ones before. Which I enjoyed.

OTOH, my taste in books has broadened to include a lot of urban fantasies and paranormal romances of late. And a few YA books.

Cheers!

I have read and reread so many of the Conan stories and I will likely read more of them in the future... Actually, I might look into ebooks so that I can carry them around on my phone.

Taste is a fickle thing, isn't it? I loathe the Salvatore novels...and loathe myself for the ones I've gotten through...for bad writing, bad characters, even bad character names. (Seriously, has there ever been a worse character name than "Cattie-brie"?)

Yet I still savor my old Conan books. I bought them in the early 80's, traveling around Europe as a teenager, looking through used bookstores with English language titles, and I treasure them. Every few years I end up re-reading the wholes series, even the later stuff that de Camp and others wrote.

For those looking for something of quality to read, try:
1) "The Buried Giant" but Kazuo Ishiguro.
2) Bernard Cornwell's Arthurian trilogy (Winter King, Excalibur, and Enemy of God)
3) "The House of the Wolfings" by William Morris.
4) If you have a little kid, find a copy of "Magic in the Mist" by Kimmel

Yes, most RAS-created names are worse than Cattie-Brie. Try the Bonaduces: yes, named after the Partridge Family actor. Try Pikel the green-haired dwarf, so named because RAS wanted to see if he could sneak "Pickle" past his editor and have it be the name of a dwarf with green hair. Try all the superfluous apostrophes and, most egregiously of all, have a look at the his [-]gungan[/-] dwarf supporting characters: every single one has a stupid name, a speech impediment, and an obvious mental illness.
