Justice League (Eclipsed)

So did anybody watch it? I know you did!

So what did you think of it?!

I liked it, it was pretty well done. They seemed to continue with the little more "edgy" thing they have going on this season.
At least 1 guy was killed, again just barely off screen. And several others werr "un-confirmed."

Best of all, the was Flash basically the featured character and the main hero this time.
And he got to do "Flash stuff" inculding a referance to a "Cosmic Treadmill"
(Not "The Cosmic Treadmill," he just used the words "cosmic treadmill" ;))

Also nice little appearance from the Flashes Rogues Gallery.
Mirror Master, Captain(?) Boomerang and...say who was the other guy?

I was frustrated by the ending. I mean
how is it exactly that GL's pathway beam and protection shell around the Flash managed to extend all the way out? How was Flash's running doing anything at all? If GL could provide a platform that supports the Flash's weight and foot-friction then he simply could have either (a) just pushed the device out there himself, or (b) if the Flash's little burst of speed there at the end was needed then he could have just stood there at the end of the path as it extended out and then jumped when GL reached his limit.
Right?

I thought it was the intial boost to the Flash, buffered by his own speed AND the speed of the track GL was creating.

Of course, I only got to see the last fifteen minutes of the frelling episode, since the cats (or more likely, I) messed up my cable connection. Rrrrrrrr.

SPOILERS

I thought it was pretty cool, except for the plot holes you could drive a truck through.

Gee, they knock out Wonder Woman and nobody notices the purple crystal in her hand? Right.....

They launch the device at the sun and it takes how many seconds to get there? Like 30? Sorry, but even at light speed it takes 8 minutes to get to the sun from the Earth. And even if the sun started to fail, it would take 8 minutes more before anyone on Earth would even see it.

Even if the device was flying it super fast speeds, it would realistically take it days to reach the sun. Launching it out at even a small percentage of light speed would have generated more than enough stress on the fusion inhibitor to vaporize it.

Furthermore, I'm not opposed to super-science gadgets, but a fusion inhibitor device that can turn off the sun? Please. Something of that tech level should be from Brainiac or Dark Seid, or some other cosmic threat. Not a device built by the U.S. Army.

And then at the end, they mention Flash being able to run at near lightspeed to create an Einstein-Rosen bridge to drain off the what? The anti-whatever particles that were turning off the sun? Ok, if you want to throw physics completely out the window, why even bother with mentioning an Einstein-Rosen bridge at all?

And the Flash can run near light-speed while standing on an energy beam from Green Lantern's ring? And he runs up to the sun it like 15 seconds? Thats just too much.

I did like the Flash being the star and all the other heroes getting possessed. That was kind of cool. I would think that J'onzz would be somewhat resistant to it though. I mean, they should all at least get a saving throw! :D

Dragonblade, as I didn't see much of the ep, I can't comment on a lot of it -- but I didn't note the physics as being any worse than comic-book usual. Of course, I was thinking "alien device", not "device built by military", at the time.

And, to answer some of your concerns... time-lapse is relatively common in these shows. Just because we saw the sun start to go dark up close and then switched to show people in cities panicking, we don't have to assume that it happened immediately at the same time. Would you rather burn 8 minutes of the show having people in the city go "Huh, no alien attack today," or watching evil-taken-over JL people gloat some more?

I did like it overall. And usually I'm pretty forgiving of comic book physics. But for some reason, some of the liberties they took with physics in this episode seemed to annoy me.

I liked the sub-plot about the TV show host criticizing the Justice League and Flash doing endorsements so he can buy the Flash van. I also loved the subtle implication about what he planned on using it for. Something the younger viewers probably wouldn't have picked up on. :D

Pretty fun episode with he exception of the Green Lantern/Flash stunt at the end. Green Lantern creates constructs out of light and is capable of interplanetary travel all on his own--why exactly does he need Flash's speed? Maybe he just did it to make Flash feel better...

I loved that Glorious Godfrey was in it--hopefully he'll turn out to be THE Glorious Godfrey--you know, Darkseid's flunky--the one that caused the whole Legends miniseries back in 80s right after Crisis and Byrne's revamp of Superman. The Legends miniseries could make for a pretty good inspiration for a three-part episode.

I also loved the part where the gem got smashed and all the JL were hit by the shrapnel and taken over by Eclipso. Flash got to strut some of his stuff there. The villains that Flash ought in the commercial were Mirror Master, Captain Boomerang, and Heatwave, BTW.

Hmmm... some good points have been made about that, in fact I Thought GL was going to be the one to fix it....until He volunteered the Flash, so yeah - maybe he wanted the Flash to get the Credit.
They were doing some serious 'bonding' in this episode. ;)
It was pretty funny when the Flash hopped in the van and patted the seat next to him. Nice moment with the remote too ;)

Also I agree that some time lapse helps move things along.
After 'bad GL' launched the device at the sun I figured Flash would have time to fix the League and the Superman would fly out and grab the device before it got there. I was surprised when it hit the sun! But I agree you can credit 'time lapse' to move the show along...
It was kind of funny they never noticed WW carrying the gem, and that they kept working in the whistle gimmick to tip the viewer in on what was up, but in the 2nd half they have the possessed hide the gem so we don't know who it is, and they don't whistle until we now who it is! When they dropped WW I thought Flash was going to pick the gem up-

Maybe now that his TV career has been basically ruined, that will give Darkseid the opening to get him to be his flunky. ;)
They could do Legends but then they will need to introduce some more of the DC characters I think...I'd like to see "Black Canary" I think she would fit in well with Hawkgirl!

ahhhh...Heatwave...(I don't think I have read an issue with him...)thanks!

And I kind of figured that either Manhunter or Gl would be able to put up some kind of resistance....when I saw that Gl was completely overtaken and he was using his ring I thought, Ooohhh! Nasty cause that gem has a Lot of Willpower apparently. So he was its best choice!

Of course the problem is that the Godfrey from Legends was actually an agent sent from Apokolips, not a human.

That wasn't Heatwave- the guy was wearing a Parka. However I can't remeber his name. Captain Cold maybe?

My beef was the fact that the gem managed to embed itself into invulnerable people. I suppose it could have just been a surface dusting on Supes and Manhunter though.

As for the whole Eclipso business, I kinda miss the eye blasts.

I must say that while so far this season has been mostly good, I really didn't like this episode, mostly for the whacky psuedo-physics, plot-holes, and general illogic
