Hey WizarDru , regarding Superman
Two random thoughts: One, don't overdo it with making Superman flawed. I like it when Supes is allowed to have a few foibles....just don't make him a jerk, either. He's still a darned decent guy. There is a middle ground between Captain Marvel and Lobo, ya know.
Second, I can't help but notice that in the DCU, cold powers are tantamount to 'psychopath', whereas in the Marvel Universe, it translates into 'ineffectual'. Funny, that.
Well...I think that it just kind of worked out that there have been a few "Superman= jerk" episodes in a row more or less.
In the one with the Alternate World Superman, even that Superman wasn't too bad, it was just that his way of dealing with things went too far. But the regular Superman wasn't bad at all in that one, iirc.
In this episode, as a result of Grodd's 'goading' the feelings the characters normally keep repressed all came spilling out.
His (Superman's) statement about "not all of us are equal" was spot on with regards to the power levels. Batman has earned Supes respect and I think they are all aware that the 2 of them are the big guns of the group. Flash Is faster but has been hurt and Wonder Woman is Almost as strong (probably closer than Any other DC character) and GL is Way up the power scale. Hawkgirl is very scrappy and has proven rather resilient (but I Seriously doubt she could take WW in a fight.) and Manhunter is apparently much weaker than I think he should be, even considering that this version of J'onn J'onnz is Much different than the comic book version- which, imo, is a good thing. In the comics he is too much like Superman but in JL animated he is a very distinctive character with his own set of powers. I think he just needs to get a Lot better at using his powers
So to me that statement, first of all being one of the little resentments that would likely normally never come to anything was brought to a head by Grodd. And I feel it was not so much arrogant as mush as aimed at Supes feeling constantly concerned that the other members will be hurt or even killed so I feel the need to shoulder the burden of responsibility to protecting the others. This is evidenced mostly by his statement that "I am the Invulnerable one; every hit I take is one that is not aimed at one of the others."
Then in the Ykthultu episodes I just thought it was funny because it seemed as if the 3 characters (Superman, WonderWoman, and Hawkgirl) were All 3 feeling kind of feisty. Superman was being a bit naive thinking that he was Helping and Protecting Grundy, even though he was doing the opposite. And Aquaman was a real pain the butt in that episode- I could have just explained right away what was going on, but that version of Aquaman is much more pompous than the comic version. (He is a lot more Namor than Aquaman really, imo, but Way better than the Superfriends version

). But if Aquaman just had said, Hey this is what’s up then I am sure things would have gone a Lot different. Again another Marvelization of the DC characters in the animated series. In Marvel the characters often get into fights based on a misunderstanding and a presumption and then later a simple explanation that could have prevented the entire fight in the first place. Combine that with Grodd =Hulk and the Defenders parallels and it fit pretty well! hmmm...Since I can't think of a Defenders counterpart for Supes in the Episode I think he was being very "Thor-like!"
Since we are all sadly preparing for the idea that eventually this season will be done I want to put out request for the season finale. I want it to have Both Doctor Fate and Sinestro. (ok and maybe Inza and Giganta too!) (ok part 2...and Shade too!) (ok ok and both Grodd and the UltraHumanite!)
hahaha!!! One more thing about this episode...I part expected Black Manta to show up when they were on the island! Kind of sad he didn't...even though he doesn't seem to do anything I just like him for some reason?!
