Justice League Unlimited 12/4/04: Homage to the Super Friends

Any one else catch all the old Super Friends' stuff in JLU this week? Black Vulcan, Wonder Twins, Apache Chief, and Wind Dragon was the Samuri (argh can't remember his name, and I even had the action figure!) and a brief Legion of Doom nod with Giganta and Bizzaro. Plus the "Old Chum" lines.

Lots of intriguing plot points too. This is by far the best of the DC Animated line yet.

This was one episode that should have been a two-parter. I did love the Super Friends homage though... That was great. And finally having The Wall make an appearance. Nice. Loved Maxwell Lord's office building. The whole Hall of Justice motif was great!

I loved it, too, although the nostalgia factor was the strongest part of this episode. They toed a weird line of updating the characters but still making them hokey ("old chum"); I think they should have gone one way or the other, instead of trying to do both.

Winddragon - Samurai
Longshadow - Apache Chief
Juice - Black Vulcan
Downpour and Shifter - The Wondertwins, Zan and Jayna

I'd have liked to see all of them join. Yeah, their powers are arguably superfluous (with Red Tornado, Atomsmasher, Metamorpho and others on the team; I'm not sure if we've seen Black Lightning or not), but hey, they've got both Plastic Man and Elongated Man on the team, so why not?

I also missed the way the old Super-Friends would shout out "inukchuk" or "kaze no yo nihayaku" (sp?) and "Wonder Twin powers, activate!" when they used their powers. Come on, that was fun!

There were some great lines here.

Aquaman: "King of the Seas, remember?"

Amanda Waller to Batman: "If I were you, I wouldn't probe the situation too closely...rich boy."

I didn't even know it was new episode till after is was over.

Hey just now Black Vulcan, one of the wonder twins and Apache Cheif are on Harvey Bidman, Attorney at Law.

Ohdeargod. The Superfriends? Amanda Waller? Maxwell Lord? All in one episode?

Man! I so regret not keeping up with this show.

The didn't have, um... Wendy and Marvin... did they?

No but maybe next time around. :) In any case it's more in the vein of "Fearful Symmetry" meets Fanservice. Course having the original JL versus the Superfriends, I felt was very cool.

Course if I'm a powerful conniving evil being like Darkseid, and have ways to manilupate the system I would directly inform said powers that be on Earth that such a project isn't something I support. Thus unless they'd like to see a few thousand Para-daemons come screaming through, they'd best learn NOT to try cloning their own super beings. Cause then I'll get pissed. This is the only thing I dislike about this season's arc. Otherwise I look forward to seeing Dark Heart AND Wake the Dead. (Especially that one. Welcome back Grundy and Birdnose! :D )

Seen 'em both already :D
I have no idea why Cartoon Network didn't show them last month (sweeps month! are the ratings that bad that they pulled it for something else?), but here in Canada, they showed all of those eps in November. I've been holding my tongue on these boards seeing as you guys haven't seen these ones yet.

Chun,

Did they show Once and Future thing yet? I'm very curious what they did with that one, especially part 2.

And don't worry about spoilage, I read a lot from tvtome.com
