Justice League Unlimited and Teen Titans 9/18 [Spoilers!]

For DC Universe old-timers (like me), we learned nothing new about Fire, Ice, Rocket Red, Doctor Fate, and the others. But for viewers completely unfamiliar with these guys, they got a glimpse of who these characters are. I see how you may not consider that character development, but in terms of the lore of the DC animated universe, there is (minor) significance in those things.

As for Hawkgirl, I do think the context of her appearance, at Doctor Fate's tower, offers hints of character development rather than being just a cameo appearance. The question we're left with at the end is not where Hawkgirl is, but why. The episode title, "The Return," refers not just to Amazo's return, but Hawkgirl's as well. Consider how the episode began, with John Stewart requesting a tour of duty on OA because of personal problems. Amazo's return, and his quest for his identity, is (in my interpretation) meant to parallel Hawkgirl's situation.

Now, I could be wrong in all that. And you're right, Pendragon, that this episode was light on characterization. But we got something pretty juicy in the Hawkgirl subplot, and some of the new guys get a bit of the spotlight as well, which has intrigued at least a couple of the posters here. Some interesting glimpses of things to come, at least.

Chun,

You makes some excellent points my friend. (And yes that was long winded enough! The second one not the first.)

Anyway there you are folks. Next up...um nothing this week (save the return of the TRUE Samurai, Jack, and Star Wars Clone Wars.) But next week! Ah there's alway that isn't there folks?

Well, I didn't say they weren't significant, just that they weren't character development. ;) I stand by that. Booster Gold was about character development. Thus far, the various characters that were introduced in "The Return" haven't had any character development. A bit of screen time, yes, but that's about it.

An excellent analysis. I hereby amend my previous comment to "very little in the way of characterization." I agree that we can extrapolate some characterization from the episode regarding Hawkgirl, and Luthor certainly had a bit of characterization as well, so my previous "nothing in the way of characterization" is an exaggeration.

Definitely. And a nice mixture of character eps. and action eps. will suit me just fine. :)

No, Olorin's right, that was the second Starman, an alien super-hero (Prince Gavyn) who came after the Golden Age Starman of the JSA, and before Will Payton or the most recent Starman, Jack Knight.

Red Star is a Russian super-hero with super-strength and flame powers. Starman has cosmic powers.

I wonder if we'll ever see Jack Knight as Starman. Probably not, but I'd love it. Great character.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Jack Knight, like Batman, is attributed to a single writer, James Robinson, as his creator. To use him, they'd have to give him a credit in the episode and pay him a special fee, in the same way that they would do so to use Neil Gaiman's Sandman. And while it would be cool to see him, they have enough characters to use already, without the extra cost of using Jack.

You know, I'd send them $5 to see Morpheus.

I wonder how much it would cost to get a special cross over cartoon verison of Spawn meeting Eregrin(sp.) ;)

Or should I just hope DC Comics does this cross over?

I mean more like a cross over that's animated. And yes a DC comic cross over wouldn't hurt either but I want to see Spawn animated.
