It's bad for business if a company can't get into a foreign market like China's.
Hmm, I wonder what languages D&D is in?

Copilot says: French, German, Italian (seen that for 3e), Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese (the PRC version, not the Taiwan version).

So it seems the PRC and Japan are (or were) target markets.

True, but unless you work for Hasbro it's unlikely anyone in the RPG industry is either. So why worry unless you're making official D&D content?

Isnt that what this is about? An official D&D Kara Tur release or one which would appeal purposefully to the region around China?

At which point, yes, there are absolutely 'rules' for doing business in China from a presentation point of view.

The person who first asked about "running afoul of the PRC" seemed to be a content creator not associated with Hasbro.

Hasbro/WoTC has a longer reach than most 3pp and homebrewers. This is what allows them to sell their products around the world.
True, but that doesn't answer my question. If you're making content and you're not Hasbro, why is China's opinion important to you?

The thing I'm most looking forward to with Kara Tur 5e is all the internet outrage over cultural appropriation/insensitivity/imperialism that will inevitably occur, regardless of how the setting itself actually gets implemented.
