D&D General Kara Tur 5e

yeah

It's easier to nitpick than to create.

And when they say "why don't you write about your own cultures"

(looks at Canada worldbuilding and Kaylna country in particular), I have.

Now show me yours...

Lathoan, I'm envisioning it as a whole country, inspired by the old Bruce Lee movie "Enter the Dragon" and a mix of Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter/King of Fighters, where the leader (and big bad) aims to conquer the world, but controls a fantastic crime organization that reaches across the realms.

I may have added a k-pop/j-pop idol as the leader to make it more interesting. :p

What would you expect in such a location?

True, but that doesn't answer my question. If you're making content and you're not Hasbro, why is China's opinion important to you?
I remember watching an interview a few years back about a New Zealander who had won a TV talent show in China. He played it down saying that it was only a "small regional station" with about 40 million viewers - that blew my mind, 40 million is a lot, yet its only a fraction of the total market available

“A small regional station with an audience about eight times the size of my country, nothing to write home about.”

So your argument is $$$? That's the important thing?

The thing I'm most looking forward to with Kara Tur 5e is all the internet outrage over cultural appropriation/insensitivity/imperialism that will inevitably occur, regardless of how the setting itself actually gets implemented.

True, but it’s sad this approach leads to quasi European with modern values + Star Wars cantina non-humans as the only society type in most of D&D.

Kinda been there, done that a zillion ways now.

My wife was born in China, and considers herself a small town girl because the city she grew up in only has a population roughly the the size of Los Angeles.

It seems to be the only "safe" way, from the megacorp point of view. If you want different in today's world, look outside WotC.

when selling RPG products? Why else would people be in the business of selling RPGs? I can stay at home and make anything I like with all the integrity I want too, its not like my module is suddenly going to be world changing
Plenty of folks in the RPG industry aren't in it (as opposed to some other work) for the money. You could make much more money doing many, many other things. In fact, the only ones I'm quite certain are here mostly for the dolla billz are the people who actually run and/or own Hasbro. Most everybody else actually wants to make cool games.
