Keen and Vorpal

Why should damage be exempt when it's a similar effect? Following your logic, the endure elements spell and the resist elements spell should stack because the end result is not 100% identical, as the two spells provide different levels of protection. However, that is not the case. Both of the spells do in fact provide similar protection, meaning their effects are similar, thus they don't stack. So, if those two spells don't stack because of their similar effects, neither would flaming and flaming burst.

Reasonable enough.
But those spells don't stack because energy resistances always overlap.

What I meant to say was that damage seems more additive than most other categories although I'm not sure why.

At any rate, you are quite correct on their stacking because (IIRC) the Flaming Burst description states that the weapon "acts as a flaming weapon" or something to that effect. Obviously, Flaming will not stack with itself.

But do you know why they overlap? Because they don't stack. It doesn't matter whether or not there is any overlap. The point is that they don't stack because they are similar effects.

I like your reasoning on this. Unfortunately, I also like my own.

So, I called upon the Dread Rules Power and have cast "Summon Sage."

I'll let you know how he responds to vorpal and keen stacking.

(FYI, I wouldn't normally ask the Sage, but I think this area is murky. I've only asked the Sage a question once before (after the DMG came out), and that was more to ask whether something was a typo or was intentional.)

No. The reason you can't combine flaming and flaming burst is because both deal 1d6 points of fire damage on every successful hit. It has nothing to do with the prerequisite spell.

you can buy whatever weapon you want if you can afford it. ELH lets you scale weapons to +10 enhancement with +10 bonus stuff... price is still bonus^2 *2000 gp

enhancements or extras over +5 up the price to bonus^2*20,000gp. Epic stuff is x10.
