I followed this link

and discoverd a +3 force keen elven longbow. Is it now quasi-official that the keen property can be added to ranged weapons? I always thought no, but I might have to revise that idea. Plus, as a long-time archer player, the quiver at the bottom of the page is solid gold (and about as pricey).

As far as I know it just states that keen can be applied to any piercing or slashing type weapon. SO I wouldn't see why not. It only states in the description that it doubles the threat range of a weapon and in the chart has a note that says "only applies to piercing or slashing weapons".

So yes its fine on ranged weapons

The cheapest version of the quiver costs 560 times its weight in gold. :)

But what's the weight increase from hollow leather tube to plain gold cylinder of same size? I wouldn't be too much surprised if it's 560 times. :)

Now I'm just waiting for official vorpal bows. Throw that sword away forever!

PS: I'm kidding.

I guess you haven't seen Princess Mononoke, with Ashi-taka and his vorpal bow :)

EDIT: to removed them censor smilies...

You can always do whatever you like and what seems reasonable in general. You can always make up new stuff.

But if you want to play with the restrictions set by the core books, then keen bows are not possible.

If flame effects, cold effects, and lightning effects can be magically bestowed on arrows BY the bow, then why not Keen? Mostly because if it were added to arrows, that x3 crit could get pretty nasty for a high-str warrior with decent magic on the weapon.

Firstly - arrows don't have a threat range, so doubling their threat range is pointless. Bows have a threat range; arrows do not. So a bow doesn't need to bestow the Keen property onto its ammunition.

But secondly - Keen as a property does not appear on the Ranged Weapons Special Abilities table. Only on the Melee table.
