I always liked the old rule from earlier editions that allowed you to drink a Greater Healing Potion in sips, or all at once, giving you the option to hold back doses. Very useful for the fighter who takes one arrow here, another there, and doesn't want to face the twin problems of wasting a perfectly good high-end potion on a few scratches and risking trouble if he's suddenly hit with a large direct-damage spell.

For 3.5, what are potions of Cure Light for? :)

That is, if you ever run into a situation where you're taking small amounts of damage from an arrow here, an arrow there...these days, damage seems to scale with level, regardless of class.

Uh... I guess they would be for small amounts of damage. However you are either ignoring his point or refusing to acknowledge the fact that potions of higher potency are often found in the course of an adventure. It it isn't practicle or make sense for the mage who has 36 hit points to run a 8 hit points down. but it seems a waste to use a potion on him that delivers 6-27 points of healing.

I like the old system as well.

Going back to the arrows... How much impact does increasing the crit threat range of an arrow by 5% have? What about a bolt by 10%. I would argue like others that it is a bad value for your money. So if that it the case then just lower the cost.

Its not cheap magical arrows or keen arrows because the enchantment doesn't last .... they aren't ready on demand.
