Kill Monsters, Take Stuff, THEN WHAT?

Yeah, all the players in my campaign right now are good, so they're not just killing stuff, they're killing for JUSTICE! Their first adventure was a cult of Graz'zt in their hometown, and then they followed it up with other assorted adventures around the area. Many of them led back to the cult and stuff, and now a low-level member has risen to power and is planning a large invasion. Plot arc!

In my current Deadlands game, the things that you'd expect the PCs to kill usually don't have a lot of stuff to take. Not even money. The PCs kill things when failing to kill them isn't really an option they're willing to accept.

Each of them is in an adventurous lifestyle for their own personal reasons. I use these reasons mercilessly to lure them into various clutches.

Open a small, French (or whatever kingdom, barony, fiefdom or agricultural commune collective most closely resembles France) bistro serving a wonderful varity of Escargot (or whatever slug-like or shelled critter seems edible and artsy) and have an extensive wine (whisky, firewater, paint thinner, engine block cleaner, etc.) list to cater to the most exclusive (read: too much money to spend, ie: other adventurers, tyrants and teen pop stars) clients.

When your business reaches the height of popularity, kill all the clients, take their stuff and lay low as an adventurer until it's clear enough to open another bistro.

Well you could build a castle and rule over you're own barony, or do something similar (become leader of a thieves' guild, build a tower where you can study magic, start a temple, etc.). This idea that you're character would eventually move onto something other than merely killing things and taking they're stuff was originally built into the game, but was largely lost as time went on.

Bingo!

1. Kill monsters
2. Take stuff
3. Build castle
4. Attract followers
5. Take over word
(6. Ascend to god-hood?)
