Killed a god

Bartmanhomer,

If I may say so, you do seem to have a bit of an obsession on the concept of "becoming a god." Didn't you start a thread last week on what it'd take to become an overgod?

1st level Assassin with a jo stick. Death Attack! Bye-bye Orcus.

(We used to play with a guy who claimed his 1st level Assassin killed Orcus with that death attack they had. The only equipment he had was a jo stick. We thought it was stupid - who would ever use a jo stick?)

This follows one of the Laws of RPGs: "If you stat it, they will kill it." I recall in first edition D&D, we started going through the whole Deities & Demigods book killing the gods in alphabetical order and stealing their godly items. It was silly but fun, and a lot easier when we got Ma Yuan's Stone.

"Officially", as described and statted out in Dieties & Demigods, yes, gods can be killed. But it is [strongest emphasis possible] very difficult.

Bullgrit

who would ever use a jo stick?
On a side-note; when I first played D&D I thought a jo stick was the same as a joystick. I wondered why monks were so video-game-obsessed.

Yeah, back in my Monty Haul 1E days, two thieves in the group chanted "Orcus, Orcus, Orcus", then, when he showed up, backstabbed him for some ungawdly amount of damage. Were I to DM that today, I'd make sure The Big O showed up with a few friends, at a minimum.

A bo stick? Isn't that a "stick stick". I thought they were just called bo. Bo meaning stick.

Could be wrong, of course.
