Killing Gaseous Vampires

Okay, so my party finally managed to kill a vampire. BUT ...

1) They reduced a vampire to 0hp ... *poof* ... it turns into gaseous form.

2) The monk with Disrupting Weapon cast on her hands hits the gaseous vampire. Aside from the DR 10/magic, there seems to be no other penalty to hitting a gaseous creature.

3) The vampire fails its save and dies instantly.

So, the question is ... does it rematerialize with all its glorious loot? Or dissapate? Is there anything official in the rules, or is this a DM call?

Ahoy,

I be surprised that Gaseous form doesn't state what happens if you die in gaseous From. I assume that you revert back to normal.

A weapon of Disruption actually destroys its target. It's logical to me that what we can read in the description of Destruction (the spell) applies if you disrupt a vampire (even a gaseous one):

This spell instantly slays the subject and consumes its remains (but not its equipment and possessions) utterly

If reduced to 0 hit
points in combat, it automatically assumes gaseous form and attempts to escape. It must reach its coffin home within 2 hours
or be utterly destroyed. (It can travel up to nine miles in 2 hours.) Any additional damage dealt to a vampire forced into
gaseous form has no effect.

Doesn't seem to prohibit save or die effects. You can't damage it further, but it should be vulnerable to the save or die effect of the disrupting weapon spell.

Its a DM call on what happens with the precous loot it had on it. It wouldn't be out of line to rule that the creature's body re-materializes on death, along with its loot.

Or you could have the corpse be blown about by the wind for 2 hours until the gaseous form duration ends.

Hmm, how'd the monk get Disrupting Weapon on their hands? Hands don't count as melee weapons for purposes of spells. Otherwise Magic Weapon or Greater Magic Weapon could be used, instead Monk require Magic Fang or Greater Magic Fang.

A monk’s unarmed strike is treated both as a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons.
My guess would be Bracers of Striking.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

I ruled that there was a 50% chance of the body rematerializing, so one did, and one didn't. Disrupting weapon is a great tactic against vampires, especially Vampire Fighters!
