Knocking Godzilla Prone

Agreeing here. I realize I have to suspend my disbelief sometimes because of the incredibly anime sh*t that goes on in this new edition. Pimpslapping a dragon to the ground seems like something a 20th level character should be able to do.

Beowulf is anime. Who knew? Hercules too.

Funny thing. You can call it anime, or you can call it properly mythic. The end result is the same, but the connotation is completely opposite.

Depends on point of view I suppose.

Actually, I've heard people make very convincing arguments that shonen anime is closer to epic myth than most european fantasy. The comparisons that can be made with Gilgamesh in particular are uncanny.

I always laugh when I see people talk about X edition (used to be 3rd, now the edition of choice is 4th) being too animey or comic bookey. Considering that both anime and western comic books tend to draw on the same themes and concepts as myth and legend, the only reason to use these terms is to score points in some sort of strange edition war.

I mean, I can point to any number of myths and legends that fit the bill for knocking Godzilla prone (One shotting the giant with a sling? Bugger must have been a minion). But, because people don't like the option in the game, they immedietely point to hot button words in order to provoke a reaction.

And striking a creature the size of a city bus and knocking it on its size isn't merely unrealistic, it's awesome. It's epic. Because when you're level 24, that's how you roll.

Well, I think the issue under inspection is how level 9 halfling rogues roll. It's not that I'm opposed to awesome, it's just that there is such a thing as too much awesome.

There's a reason why this game has a Dungeon Master - to deal with these sorts of edge cases. That being said, if I was going to overrule the effect of a power I would let the player know before hand so they don't waste their action.

The problem again, is looking at things from a birds eye view.

Most Gargantuan or Colossal creatures are well above a 9th level rogue, meaning their saves are going to be that much higher. While there is a chance that the 9th level rogue might do it, it's entirely dependent on the DM throwing an encounter at the party WAY above their level and then all the stars and moon lining up correctly so the rogue can pull this off.

So, it's really about epic level rogues, because the heroic level halfling hasn't a hope in Hell of having this happen.
