Knowlege (autopsy?)

Heal makes sense to me, but it's been handled differently in published sources. The Rokugan book by AEG lists autopsy as a craft skill, with masterwork scalpels adding +2 to the check. Hollowfaust: City of Necromancers uses Knowledge: Anatomy.

Profession seems to me the least appropriate, since autopsies are not done for the money. Except, perhaps, in a city of necromancers. ;)

Heal is a logical choice; in fact, I may incorporate that, because it might encourage more people to take it in my future games. In my experience, heal is rarely given ranks after 5th level or so

5th level?

Second level. First, if the character has a Wisdom bonus.

Thanks for all your replies folks, I really appreciate all your advice. What would you all say to a forensicist, which is moreso the direction I'm looking to go now? Profession? Doesn't really seem like a heal check to me. Any suggestions?

Depending on the campaign world. If a person can actually make their living doing it, then it's appropriate for a profession. If you are in fact running a Sleepy Hollow-style campaign (a cool idea, btw), then there's a precedent for that sort of thing.

You can't reason with a headless man.

I'd actually go with the Heal skill but use the Int modifier instead of the Wisdom modifier (for this type of use only).
That's my thought anyway.
