I fianlly broke down and got an X box, and I hear this game is great, but what are the benefits, if any, of getting it for the X-box instead of the pc?

The PC version has high system requirements and a number of performance issues (which they were supposedly patching).

The (somewhat depressing) truth is that this is a console game with a PC port (despite all their BS about making "two versions"), and it just runs more smoothly and hassle-free on the X-box. Unless you have a high-end computer, it'll probably also look slightly better on the X-box.

I have a pentium 4, 2.4 gig 512mb RAM, an ATI Raedon 8500 video card that cost more than my Xbox, lol. I think it'll handle it. That was not my concern, I just want the most fun, best gaming experience I can get from KotoR.

"Handle it", yes. "Run it well", don't be so sure. Kotor and Deus Ex 2 are both system killers because of bad optimization resulting in poor simultanious development for 'box and PC.

And it's the same game either way.

I've got a P4 with a video card that cost more than the X-Box too, and KotOR slows down to a crawl on it - and that's with the level of detail lowered to the point where it dosn't look as good as it did on the X-box. (I own it for both platforms)

If you want to run it in high resolution, with anti-aliasing, reflections, high-detail sky, etc. there's no guarantee your system will be up to it - they didn't do a very good job on the port and it's a resource hog. And like I said, it had performance-related bugs that made it run like crap even on faster computers than yours.

I'll second that. I've got an ATi Radeon 9800, 1GB RAM, 2.8 GHz P4 w/ 800 MHz FSB, and that seems to be just enough to run Halo (like deus ex and kotor, ported to PC from XBox). In fact, I still can't get a framerate much higher than 30fps with all the graphic goodies turned on running at 1280x1024 (though it runs great at 1152x864)

Let me play devil's advocate a moment. I purchased KOTOR on PC back in early December, and only two days ago rented it for my wife's XBox. I found the PC version HEAD AND SHOULDERS above the XBox version, to the point of finding it unplayable after having beat it twice on my PC.

1) The Graphics on my TV were actually quite fuzzy compared to my PC - the obvious reason being the TV's lower resolution, but it was still quite jarring.

2) The controls to get to the save games, the equipping lists, etc. were quite awkward to me compared to the ease of using them in my PC (more buttons).

3) There are added features,
such as an extra world to visit,
in the PC version.

The game definitely played the same for me, but I didn't feel the XBox was the superior of the two offerings; this was to be expected, after having several months' difference between releases.

Having had few problems with my PC version, I enjoyed the experience more. The one problem I did have was when I bought a new video card at the same time as the game, and it caused me to lock up; turned out the card was the defective element. It ran even well when I played on my 32MB MX card, only sputtering occasionally on the cutscenes. On my 128MB FX 5200 card, it sings like a mynabird.

But you really won't be crying with either version. The game is darned well crafted.

The menus were hard to get used to on the XBox (in fact I was still struggling with them after finishing the game!)

Dang it Henry! I didn't know about #3!! Now I'm going to have to get it for my PC!! >:(

I played through KotOR several times on my PC and have encountered absolutely no problems. All graphics setting are set to maximum. My specs:

Pentium IV, 2.8 Ghz
512 MB RAM
GeForce FX 5700
